  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I haven't paid any attention to this in the last 5 or so years I've really been into smoking but does the CA list make prices go up slightly after the release? There's no doubt some of the boxes are already pricy. Could their place on the list cause them to increase due to people that aren't in the know now seeing the sticks promoted as the best? Or would some retailers now that they're the "best" adjust prices accordingly due to the expected demand increase? Just wondering if anyone else has actually paid attention and noticed a trend with the release of the list.

It is hard to say overall, I would think it would make some prices go up but I have not noticed a increase of the cigars in the top 10. But I have not been keeping a very close eye on it.

those CAO Visions were severely under priced anyway :widemouth
 ... probably because of the UNDERwhelming demand for these rockets.

Thinking more about this, I don't think there is much of a correlation to cigar prices and any top 10 lists in magazines. While these lists certainly affect sales to some degree - because some may at least try these high rated brands, IMO the quality of the cigars themselves will determine long-term demand (and therefore price). Also many manufacturers tend to encourage their distributors to keep the prices fairly consistent. The tobacco business overall has been under growing fire from anti-smoking groups over the past 10 years and it's just going to get worse.

In other industries, top 10 lists have a more profound effect. Look at wine for instance. As soon as Robert Parker or Wine Spectator prints out their "best of lists" ... the prices make a huge jump. But I believe there are also far more wine drinkers / collectors than cigar smokers / collectors.

I haven't seen any notable price change based on reviews by CA, top 10 or otherwise.

You will see that the Padron series cigars, all lines, have remained pretty consistent at fair market value, even given their overwhelmingly high scores.
