  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So i finally smoked my first cabaiguan yesterday, and i have to say, it was IT, with a capital IT. It was the flavor i've been searching for in Pepin made cigars. It's what i call that "charcoal" flavor. That dry, smokey, almost chalky flavor. You can get hints of it in most all of his stuff, and certainly it's more prevalent in some, but i've been on a serious hunt to find one that really showcased that flavor. This was it.

Appearance - This thing was beautiful! Flawless. Ligth skinned, no veins, beautiful cap.

Draw - Somewhat loose. No problems getting smoke. It was just about how i like em.

Ash - Loose, as is typical with a loose drawing cigar. I only ashed 3 times, but then again, it was a robusto size cigar. The first ash fell in my lap and warmed up my jewels quite nicely. But i learned from that experience and ashed about every 3/4" to 1".

Burn - This had a pretty uneven burn. I never had to touch it up, but it definitely didnt' burn perfect circle straight. At about the 1/2 point, the burn straightened out perfectly, but that only lasted for a few minutes and it was back to it's crooked ways. However, despite the ultra thin wrapper, i had no issued with the wrapper, like i expected.

Flavor - As i've already stated, this had that Pepin flavor i've come to absolutely love. I could tell within the first 3 puffs that this was The One. That flavor was pretty consistent through the first half of the cigar. it was very well balanced with some leather flavors and i'm sure there were others that i couldn't taste. At the half way point, this thing really took off in terms of flavor and starting gaining momentum and gusto. It became medium to full bodied and those flavors really became one with each other. It had a medium to long length finish that allowed me to bask in the pepin flavor for about 5 or 6 seconds, all the while smacking my pallatte and tasting the taste.

91

That's my overall score of this cigar. It would have been higher had the burn been better. Possibly as high as 94.

I believe these will be great with about 2-3 years of age on them. I was fortunate enough to be able to pick up another few handfuls of these yesterday, and i've tucked them away deep in the depths of my coolidor, hoping that i can forget about them for a few years. Doubtful, but hey, it's nice to dream.

My only reservation with these is that the Guapos, which i haven't yet tried, are going to be better due to that different wrapper, which i believe is a sungrown. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

But none-the-less, i absolutely loved this cigar!
