Not the mad fladder!
I finally got around to trying the Cain F. I have been a little worried about all the claims that this is a full bodied and full flavored smoke (which it is) and I wanted to make sure I was in the right mood before lighting one up.
The initial flavors are strong leather and cedar with a huge blast of black pepper through the nose. The spice borders on harsh through the nose, and I am not able to distinguish many other flavors. The flavors slowly come down a notch after the first 2 inches but is still full maybe med/full. At the half way mark I am starting to pick up notes of coffee and liquorice with a taste of roasted notes on the finish. As I was nearing the final third of the cigar I was expecting the flavor to jump back up to full throttle but it stayed med/full with just a bit of the spice creeping back into the mix.
The burn was very good with a dark gray and slightly brown colored ash. There was a slight bit of tunneling half way through but a quick touchup on the wrapper cured it.
Believe this is the second release of this cigar (band on the foot)
Cigar had a few veins but well constructed and good burn. Very dark ash (you can not see the brown tint in the photo)
Overall this was a good smoke. The initial pepper blast and leather overpowers the other flavors in the first third, but mellow out nicely to let the other flavors shine. This was not a complex smoke but I did enjoy the profile after the initial punch to the gut. I am willing to bet that these will be great after a long nap in the humi to allow some of the initial kick to settle down.
