Cain Habano 6x60

Location: Sydney, Australia.
Date/Time: Tuesday 4th January 2011, 8:20PM
Weather: Outdoors, Overcast, 21C, 65-70% RH.

This cigar is firm when giving it a good pinch between the fingers, but not hard like rock. There aren’t any soft spots, but the cigar is confortable to hold.
Wrapper is a dark caramel and consistent all the way around.

The wrapper smells crisp, without being overbearing. A light tobacco aroma surrounds it.
The cut is achieved with a punch, the first time I have tried this cutting method. Thankfully I didn’t use a straight cut as the draw is quite easy. Post punch, head smells of sweet tobacco and something else I can’t put my finger on. :dunno:

Lighter used is a Colibri single flame torch. Lights up very easily. Once lit, the smoke is plentiful and very aromatic.
My initial impression of the cigar is that it’s quite strong in flavour. I’m no expert, but I think I’m getting a floral and caramel flavour. It’s pleasing on a retrohale, but also presents a tingling sensation more than what I like. There’s a medium amount of smoke that pleasant, even when the cigar is resting.

As the first third nears completion, I’m surprised at how easily you can smoke this. This cigar, though at the strong end of the scale, can be enjoyed by all cigar smokers. It’s giving me a woody taste which reminds me of a bonfire. Yum!
So far the ash has fallen off after an inch, which isn’t too bad, but I was hoping for it to hold on for a while longer. It’s not particularly strong, but I’m not disappointed either.
Each puff is getting more smokey wood flavours, it’s nice!

Into the second third and I’ve lost my smokey wood. Get your minds out of the gutter! I’m not getting any further flavours, but still enjoying the smoke, so unfortunately, nothing new to report.
Hmmm… *exhales a mountain of smoke* That strength is picking up at the half way point. It’s like a sweet and heavy leather which is one of my favourite tastes in a cigar. The smoke is also thicker and more intense. It’s reminding me of smoking an LFD DL, but not as strong.
The second third is rounding up now and I’m starting on a spicy wood now and it’s a good change.

The final third is getting stronger and my mind is not clear anymore. This is a strong cigar! I can feel my pulse quickening and the blood pressure mounting! There’s now coffee and a slight nutty aroma. It’s now so strong that I dare not retrohale in fear of stripping bare my nasal passage. The cigar’s now getting a little hot, so I’m smoking it slower to combat the bitter taste.

Conclusion
I was looking forward to smoking this cigar for a long time as I had read a lot of good things about it. It was an enjoyable smoke and one I’m glad I was prepared for.
There wasn’t too much complexity in the stogie, but it was compensated with plenty of strength. I was hoping it would give me more of a Cuban taste, so I’m a little disappointed about that.
I’m not a fan of the easy draw and was thankful that I used a punch to keep the opening limited.
Overall, it’s a good smoke, but with some years on it, it’d be a better one.
Would I buy a box? No, I wouldn’t. A 5er? Probably not. A couple of singles? Yeah, why not.

Nice review. I prefer the smaller ones, and they have grown on me. I'm not sure any more between the Habano and the F ... both good. I'd love to try the lancero!

Mighty fine review and pic's Hasan, thanks for sharing your experience!

"I’m not a fan of the easy draw"

That statement confused me, why would you not want a cigar that had an easy draw?

Larry, it felt like there was no resistance. Like I was sucking on the end of an empty drinking straw. To each his own, huh? :dunno:
