Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.
The gourd is hollow. A piece briar or something is glued to the gourd for the mortise to be drilled. The bowl is meershaum and is drilled in the bottom. When I see something like this, my biggest question is how in the heck did the maker drill it? How does one drill a 180° radius? Or is it drilled/backfilled?
Yup. A calabash pipe is made from a calabash gourd altho some make some from wood like mahogany. With a meershaum or porcelain bowl sometimes clay or briar. I think the later is because it's illegal to export block meershaum out of Turkey.Awesome work Grrrr, that's one pipe I still want to get is a calabash... I love the way they look. Gord? I never knew...

Have to agree twice on that... Once with the acquisition, and second on the gourd.Awesome work Grrrr, that's one pipe I still want to get is a calabash... I love the way they look. Gord? I never knew...
