The Sevillana is an offering by Caldwell cigars in their "Seleccion Junior Varsity" line. It sports an Ecuidorian Connecticut wrapper and a pigtail cap. The band is classy and elegant featuring gold accents against a white background. The construction is very good with normal amounts of veining for a Connecticut wrapper and an even tight fill throughout. It measures 7.25 x 48.
No prelight draw using the "French" method. (I know this has an official French name, but I can't be bothered to remember how to pronounce or spell it.)
The first third starts out with flavors of orange dried fruit, toast, cedar and light white pepper. The smoke is plentiful and the draw is perfect.
The second third and the spice is ramping up. Cream and cedar take the forefront with fruit now taking up the rear. The transition is subtle but noticeable if your paying attention. Light grassy notes enter the picture. The burn continues to be straight and requires no touch up.
The final third starts and the grass fades completely away. Caramel, cream and cedar with the spice continuing to build. A relight is necessary and does subtract from the final third. Some harshness creeps in because of this and I am forced to nub sooner than I would like.
A great offering from the folks at Caldwell. This would make a wonderful morning smoke with your morning cup of joe. The flavors were bountiful and fairly complex. With a price tag of $5 a stick, a box of 10 would be a welcomed addition to any humidor.
