  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Camacho Liberty 2009
Size: 6 x 54 Figurado
Wrapper: Habano
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Honduras
Strength: Medium to Full

Appearance and Construction
The Presentation on the Liberty is very thorough and attractive. The 09 Liberty is layed in a coffin, wrapped in paper and double banded. It is dressed in a silky smooth wrapper that is a rich brown. There are some very small veins and it has tight seems. The construction is good, but there were a few spongy spots, still nothing alarming. It is not the most beautifully rolled stick, it isn't totally round and not nearly a box press but somewhere in between. I would guess this is from the coffin. It is a figurado, but is tough to tell. Just a small bulge in the middle and slight tapering on either end.

Burn - Ash - Draw
The burn throughout the Liberty was uneven and needed more touch-ups than a stick this price should. If it wasn't such an enjoyable stick it would have been very annoying. The ash was a bit flaky and looked like it would crumble off within a few minutes, but it ended up hanging on for nearly two inches. I couldn't ask for a better draw. It had just the right amount of resistance and each puff produced a nice amount of smoke.

Flavor and Notes
Right away this Camacho hits with a strong cedar blast and almost a caramel sweetness. As I got into the 1/3 there was a very grassy, hay like taste, with just hints of subtle spice. Further into the stick it develops a burnt wood taste and still the grassy/hay remains. Around the halfway point the subtle hint of spice returns and strengthens. The Liberty finishes off in much of the same way, mainly a cedar, grassyness with some spice, burnt wood, and caramel.

Overall
The Liberty 09 was a very smooth and flavorful cigar. There were a lot of complex and unique flavors throughout. The only downside to this was the burn. It got a bit annoying but it was such a great smoke it was easy to just fix it and forget it until the next time it needed repair. I would definitely smoke more of these and if you can find them be sure to get a few. It burnt fairly quick and I nubbed it in just under an hour and twenty minutes. This wasn't overpowering at any point and I would say this is a medium to full flavor stick. If I was to give it a numeric rating I would give it a solid 90.

Nice review as always Chris!!! I found with this cigar you need to take it out of it's coffin and let it rest for the day. I had that spongy and lite issues too however on the next one, I removed it from it's coffin/wrap the night before and it was a vast improvement. I think the coffins are great for sealing in the flavor however I think it seals in the moisture just as much.
I felt this cigar had a hint of Cognac as well and is one of my Favs hands down!!!
