  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Thankfully my wife and I didn't have to go anywhere for Thanksgiving this year (see what I did there ) so after going out to eat at a local establishment I took my son for a bike ride around the neighborhood. Perfect time for a post meal smoke. I've had this cigar in the humidor for a while, but haven't managed to get to it and it seemed a great time to rectify that. As a lover of maduro I've been anticipating this one, but I've had other homogenous cigars (all the same type of tobacco) let me down so I hoped this one would meet my expectations. First off, this is a drop dead gorgeous cigar. Pitch black wrapper offset by the metallic silver bands. Took a while to fire it up, not sure if that was me being in a hurry or the type of tobacco. Once lit it I was greeted by a fairly thick amount of pepper masking a slight, unsweet cocoa flavor. The pepper died out in short order leaving a wonderful bitter cocoa, coffee, and some dark fruit. Couldn't quite peg the fruit...dark cherry or plum :dunno:. Not a lot of changes happening as the cigar burned. A little leather joined the mix about half way in and towards the end it took on a slight charred wood flavor. The smoke had a slightly dry mouth feel to it, but over all a great experience. The burn was good throughout and the ash held for miles. Not something that'd be a mainstay in the humidor due to cost and while very enjoyable it's not something that I would see myself smoking a lot of anyway. An enjoyable celebratory smoke or something to mix it up with though.

Nice review Dan, always enjoy your reviews. Trip maduro's were some of my buddies favorite's, funny how some cigars are forgotten although they still deliver.

Thanks for the review Dan! The one I smoked was like chewing on a chocolate bar. May need to revisit.

Well, since there's a Chocolate Beer (Youngs), I guess there should be a Chocolate Cigar.

Nice review BTW...Being a lover of all things chocolate, I must try one of these.

Thanks for review. I've got 2 left from a 5 pack. My 1st 2 were pretty good but the 3rd one I had was fantastic...I think the extra rest time really helped these out (I think I smoked the other 2 too soon off the truck). I'm excited about the 2 I have left and I need to buy more.

The great thing about these forgotten gems is that they are a sure bet with years of age, unlike many nc's.

I wish I aged as well as an all-maddy cigar :)
