Can a torch lighter be too hot?

Now that we've taken care of the pirates on the thread-jacking...:roundtheh.... J/K. This is the wierd thing. I totally agree with everything said...and I prefer the no draw. But with the colibri it doesn't matter. Either it scorches or doesnt light. I know the simple answer is 'Don't use the colibri', but it confounds me and I want to figure it out. Other lighters work fine.
I use a torch..EVERY TIME. I have single, double and triple torches, evena huge Vector Thunndra Triple torch, that requres a gentle touch to use. The flame never touches the cigar..nor do my lips, not until it's lit. Hold your colibri 's flame about 2 inches from the foot. Slowly mov ethe flame closer, never focusing the heat on one spot, eveness is important. Watch as the heat from the flame "toasts" the foot. It does not ignite right away, just turns dark. Be sure you toast evenly, including the edges, as the wrapper needs to burn with the filler. Once the foot starts to glow, stop and blow on it.. then repeat a few times. Before I ever draw on the lit cigar the entire foot will be glowing and lit. Also as I am finishing with the torch the foot will resemble the picture from the lunar module reentering the atmosphere.

Man, you got cigars with astronauts in them? Sell me one?
I like to light my cigars with the no draw as well... usually take me 2-3 mins cause I'm afraid of hurting flavors... specially if it's the first time I smoke that cigar.
Distance and time... The people at the store look at me weird while I use the table lighter for 3 mins (no one is waiting... just watching)
I see a guy walk to his locker, grab a Padron 80th... toast the foot, take the cigar to his lips, and the flame jumps to it... 2 puffs and it's lit... 30 seconds to light that thing... It would take me 5 minutes to light my first Padron 80th... and maybe 3 minutes if I ever have a 4th or 5th.

A torch light can definitely be too hot. I lot of people before me have said it much better so I won't repeat anything. I'll admit that it did take me awhile to realize the importance of a good, thorough beginning light. It shouldn't be a hurdle between you and cigar, it should be the introduction to the smoking experience. It makes for a much more enjoyable time imho
