About me: I've been smoking cigars for just under a month. Up to today, experience has been JC Newman brands - Brickhouse, Centenario, La Unica, and a Brand X Rigolleto Dominican Light. I still consider myself a n00b smoker.
CAO Brazilia Gol! 5x56
Wrapper: Brazil Maduro
Binder & Filler: Nicaragua
Obtained from: Cigars International (CAO Dream Team sampler)
Time in humidor: 2 days
Aroma (unlit): Very dark, licoriche aroma. Aroma has a bite to it. Aroma is significantly different from any other cigar I've smelled, although I haven't smelled many. Overall pleasing aroma.
I had a little trouble getting a good light. I attribute this to the fact that it did not have sufficient rest time. The reason I smoked this one so soon is I have a friend here in Afghanistan going home tomorrow, so we shared the two Brazilias that came in my sampler.
Taste: Immediately a very nice decidedly chocolate flavor, but not super sweet. More of a baking cocoa than a Hershey bar. Kinda woody. Pepper zing was barely even noticeable. Later started getting a woody note.
For me, seemed fairly clean, nice smoke. Finish wasn't very long. It was hard to tell how much smoke there was as we smoked these at night with no light.
Strength: I had this after a meal, but after I was done, I had absolutely no dizziness. So very nice medium-full body cigar, but without the nicotine high. Mild-Average strength.
Construction: The ash held on for at least 1.5 to 2 inches. Probably the longest ash I've seen of the few cigars I've smoked.
Burn: During the first half, had to do several touch-ups. However, I attribute this to the cigar not having enough rest time (2 days). I had to put more effort into lighting this one than any other cigar, so it was probably a bit too moist. The 2nd half had a much better, practically flawless burn.
Overall, this cigar exceeded expectations, and was a very positive introduction to the world of Maduros. I definitely wouldn't mind coming back to this one once I get some more cigars under my belt. I'd probably go so far as to say this was my favorite yet, better than the Brickhouse Robusto or Cuesta Rey Centenario Pyramid #9.
I'm anxious to try the next cigars, but I will be giving them a couple weeks of rest time. My next cigar will be a Cuesta Rey Centenario Riviera.
