Details
Length/Ring: 5 x 56
Origin: Danli, Honduras
Wrapper: Honduras, Natural
Binder: Honduras
Filler: Italy, Nicaragua, Peru
This cigar has been sitting in my humidor at 65% rh for probably close to 5 months. It wasn't in cello, and looks like it has taken a bit of a beating.
Pre-Light
I was a bit unsure how to clip this big boy, but ended up cutting a small amount of the cap off with my Xikar. Pre-light draw was extremely loose. Way too loose for my liking. Probably should've punched the cap instead of clipping it. Oh well...next time.
The wrapper was a pretty natural. Uniform in color, no blemishes, and only one noticeable vein. The wrapper did seem very thin though, and there was a bout an inch long tear near the foot, and a small crack near the head of the cigar. The feel of the cigar was nice. It was firm with no lumpy parts. I was afraid to molest it too much, as the wrapper was already in bad shape.
Light
I toasted the cigar with a butane table lighter, so it went up pretty quickly. I was actually surprised how evenly it lit. Smoke was fairly dense and volumous. Even when idle, the cigar was very smoky. I like that
1st Third
Initial flavors were very woody / cedary. Also found a subtle traditional tobacco flavor. It was a bit peppery on the tongue. There was also a very noticeable flavor that I couldn't quite place. Quite unique and I haven't really experienced it in a cigar before. My lame attempt to describe it would be it tastes kind of like a strong flower (a rose maybe) smells. But not overly pungent. It worked well for this cigar. The burn was a bit off due to the crack in the wrapper. Also, I had to hold my finger over the crack near the head of the cigar. All in all, still smokable though.
2nd Third
Finally burned past the crack in the wrapper near the foot, and the burn is immediately better. It corrected itself without any touch ups from me.
The draw actually firmed up as well and the cigar got a lot less smoky. The flavor profile hasn't changed much, a bit more peppery? not quite the word i'd like to describe it, but it'll have to do. Still interesting flavors. A little creamier than the first third.
Last Third
More flower power. The floral flavor was more prevalent here. Still woody as well.
I let the cigar go out with maybe an inch and a half left. It was still smokeable, but the flavor was kind of bleh at that point.
Overall Burn
Overall I'd say the construction of this cigar was superb. Not only did it burn well with my wrapper issues, but the looseness of the draw didn't stop it from being an enjoyable smoke to me. The ash was dark grayish in color and easily was 3 inches before it fell off.
Conclusion
All in all i thought this was a good smoke, well constructed, burned well, good flavor. The taste was very unique. I wouldnt go for this smoke all the time, but maybe now and again if Im looking for something different.
