  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I had to meet a friend in Philly yesterday but he got caught up in traffic. So since I had some time to kill, I figured I'd stop by Holt's for a cigar. I knew I should have brought my cigar caddy with my own smokes :sadstare:

Anyway, inside Holt's I went and perused the merchandise. In the glass cabinet they had 2004 Forbidden X for $37.50......WTF??? I decided to try out a CAO Vision Prana (pyramid) @ $16/stick. Even that was high for a cigar but I used to like CAO so I figured why not. I'm a sucker for gimmicks I guess :help:

Headed to the lounge at the back of the store and examined the stick. Nice looking Dominican wrapper (corojo), Dominican binder with Nicaraguan, Brazilian and Dominican filler. Solid construction with no soft spots and the bunch looked neatly rolled. Clipped the head and the draw was spot on. The burn was relatively straight and the smoke output was great. Alas, that's where the good points end. The flavor was nondescript. At one point it almost tasted like fumigated tobacco. Definitely full bodied and it had a nicotine kick but the blend was lackluster and it struggled to meld into any kind of pleasant flavor. Overall, the worst CAO I've ever had. I should have just bought a CAO Cameroon, pocketed the extra savings and been done with it.

Luckily the Visions I had the displeasure to smoke were part of a trade ... so the pain was not as bad to my pocketbook. I do enjoy some of the other CAO cigar lines, but they laid a big goose egg with this one.

After all the hype I had to try one also. I'm a fam of thier CX2 and mX2. But... the Vision was horrible. I think the high price is due to the High Tech box. Its a shame, I partied with Jon Hubber from CAO and he was so exited about the line. I think it's going to tank.

That is a let down. I too love the CAO line, and I have one that I am letting sit for a while and try to to see it it will do anything.

I'm afraid letting it sit might not do a thing although I wish you better luck. While it isn't fair to judge a cigar by smoking only one example, it isn't worth my time or money to sample more. More for the rest of you....

I hear you, but you are not the first to say this was a lifeless cigars. Oh well live and learn. But I was at a cigar bar in Worcester a month ago and a guy there was smoking one and he really enjoyed it and the bartender smoked on a vendor gave him and he liked as well. I will try it and post later.
