A Razorback lost in Texas land
Opening light was pretty nice. Some sweet coffee, along with a little green bell pepper.

1st third: Earthy but with some salted caramel notes. I really like this. Bright, medium roast coffee, a little Nutella on the finish. Burn line is very jagged, and I see some wrapper issues here and there. Nothing I won’t endure for a good smoke.
Going on, I get some Allones-type fruit. The Katman pointed out red wine throughout his review of this stick, but I taste it as rather a non-tannic, slightly overripe red jammy fruit. Digging it, along with the caramel which is becoming less salted and darker. Texture is creamy as can be; and strength seems to hover under medium so far. The burn line has self-corrected, very smooth. Still concerned about a few cracks in the wrapper, but no ill effects yet.
Heading towards the second third, there’s a faint note of black licorice. Too sweet to be anise, definitely licorice. Took me a long moment to place, and difficult to decide whether or not I welcome it. It’s on the very back end of the finish, faint.
2nd third: Not black licorice. More like Pernod Absinthe, and not very prominent at all. Cashews, hazelnut, cocoa, and earth dominate. Still a hint of those red fruits. The ash is hanging on extremely well, and no real construction issues yet. This is not really coming at me in NC fashion at all. No pepper heat, no “palate-syrup.” I like both of those things sometimes, and they have their place in my rotation, but this stick is Dustin Hoffman. Even-keeled, never giving too much, just doing its thing and doing it damn well.

I was just getting ready to show off the solid ash that hadn’t yet budged, and of course it ended up in my lap. “The world will never know.” Still, though, that was a good-sized chunk of ash. Impressed by the leaf pack.
Not getting a lot of change as I go on. Complexity isn’t everything, and I will always take great consistent flavor over too much complexity. Moreover, this comes across like a stick that has aged so long that there are no elbows, no angles between flavors. I don’t think this stick has any amount of real age, though, so that’s another point in favor here.

Last third: This is going into roasted marshmallow territory, though still very subtle in its delivery. Good, sweet, toasted tobacco notes and great retrohale. Strong notes of vanilla coming in, too. Very brief note of bitterness towards the end, but it’s gone as soon as I notice it. Bourbon barrel stout coming through in loads. Luckily the wrapper issues I thought were coming never showed up. Right near the label, that Allones-style fruit is back. Nice end to a very enjoyable smoke!
