  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey All. I'm interested in getting a Cigar ashtray for my truck. I tend to take long trips and since I quite dipping I'm now passing the time by smoking cigars.

I've looked on the net and have found several that seem to be good. Such as:
http://bobken.com/

http://elitesmoker.com/Smokeless-Ashtrays.html

I was wondering if anyone has any personal experience with any of these or if they use anything else. Also, anyone know a good air purification system that works in a car?

Well, I personally don't smoke in the car, but I've heard good stuff on the bobken and, as far as air purification goes, use the search function and ye'll come up with better options than one of those.

Good luck on the air purification system, i have had zero luck with the products i have tried, the best solution i have found is to leave all my windows open at night (in my garage) and to not have the a/c or vent on at all when i smoke as the smoke gets into the ventilation system and is hard to get out. I would love to hear of a product that does work.

I use an ashtray that I got at Holt's that fits in the cupholder. It looks like a black plastic cup with a long extension with a groove that holds the cigar when it's not in my hand. I tried to find it on Holt's website just now but came up empty. Anyway, I really like it.

As to air purification, there's no need for any system. Just do the following.

Close all windows and sunroof except for the driver's window, which should be kept open about 2" or so.

Turn all the vents on the hvac system so that they are open and pointing towards the driver's side window.

Turn on the hvac fan full blast. Use the thermostat to control temperature. Set it so that it brings in fresh air and doesn't recirculate (e.g. don't use a maximum A/C setting). Set the airflow so that it is split evenly between floor and panel (or floor and windshield --- which one is better depends on which car you have).

Hold the cigar in your left hand. Use the ashtray for ashes and don't try to flick ashes outside the car. Empty the ashtray as soon as you stop driving.

That's it. You create positive pressure inside the car which forces the air and smoke out the window. Its efficiency increases proportionately with your speed. You might want to spray the interior (including the headliner) with Febreze occasionally, but I never noticed a need to do that. My wife, a non-smoker, has never noticed any kind of smell.

Hope this helps.

Thanks I'll give it a whirl.

Smokinafuente I've been given that one some serious thought. I may just get it.

Thanks everyone for all the advice.

Well it worked!! Sat in the car at lunch, followed the instructions, lit up, read a book for a good hour...BAM!! No smell.

Took the wife home after work and she did not say a word.

I use this method but for some reason it does not work in the Jag and other some other cars very well. Warning. When I first got the Jag I found out the hard way that whenever you start the car and the air is on it AUTOMATICALLY goes to recirculate. I just about gased myself the first time I lit up a cigar. Now I have to be very careful to turn off the re-circulate every time.

Glad it worked. BTW, it works better, the faster you move. I'm actually kinda surprised that it worked while sitting still.
