Having been an Arturo Fuente fan at a time when there were only two sizes of Don Carlos iirc, I was eagerly looking forward to the elder patriarch's, Carlos Sr., new cigar since its announcement years ago. Ironically in my wait and search, smoking the Doble Tres completes my attempt to try each size as it is the first I wanted to try.
"Casa Cuba
A tribute to the early days of cigar making, this new release from Arturo Fuente was personally blended by Carlos Fuente Sr. using the time-honored traditions he learned from his father as a young boy. His intent was to recreating the experience and flavor of Cuban cigars he rolled and enjoyed in his youth.
Carlos Sr. selected an Ecuador Havana wrapper tobacco and chose a mix of Cuban-seed Dominican long filler and binder, and blended them in the same manner he used blending Cuban tobacco many years ago."
- the quoted above is from Arturo Fuente's website
Fuente's website lists this size
as a 5.5x44. But measured off a chart it is more a 42, possibly even 40 ring gauge.
Casa Cuba - Doble Tres
Appearance/construction - Uniform medium leather brown, box pressed and very firm from head to foot. The feel of the wrapper is a smooth leather.
Burn/draw - a bit firm draw, but not tight. Fine burn, while a touch up or two were considered it corrected itself.
Pre-light - Light hay.
1/3 - Sweet, floral, cedar, cream, cinnamon, nutty and light tea...mild body and mild to medium flavor.
2/3 -Spicy cinnamon, a brief note of anise, sweet, floral, leather and buttery mouthfeel ...medium body and medium flavor.
3/3 - Floral, cinnamon, sweet, spicy and leather...medium body and medium-full flavor.
A pleasure to smoke for me, the Doble Tres is a nice change of pace to the fuller bodied more full flavor cigars I mostly enjoy.
