  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

As you can see this review is being paired with a Dogfish Head 120 Minute. I haven't done a review lately and since one of my good friends felt the need to send me some great beer I had to pick a great smoke. Lighting this cigar I am reminded of the fortunate experience that I had actually visiting Casa Fuente a few months back and having this same cigar and tangerine mojito with 2 great friends on a great trip to Vegas. The weather here tonight is a little less than desirable so it will be a pretty brief review.

Prelight, I am getting a nice sweetness from the wrapper to the lips and the cold draw is pretty much hay with a slight bit of grass to it. There are no prevalent veins to the cigar, no soft spots and draw seems a little on the tight side. Let's light this sucker up!

Slow roasted this cigar with my Dupont soft flame knockoff while I was watching game 7 of the World Series and first couple draws gave me an earthy, leather taste that is typical of most Opus X with some lingering sweetness. Burn and draw are perfect right out of the gate and I can retrohale this one without any burn. I thought it might be a little tight from the pre-light draw but this sucker is perfect! As I get a bit in to the first part of the cigar, the cedar creeps in a bit but it still remains a medium bodied cigar.

Getting in to the second third it builds a little in strength and the sweetness starts to fade away. At this point I have decided to just smoke in the house, which doesn't happen often.... A very pleasant medium smoke that I just can't seem to set down! This is a cigar you want to retrohale every couple puffs just to pick up on some of the subtilties. Ash is holding great and a very light gray color to it. Draw has been perfect since lighting and ash is holding strong!

Final third..... You ever just take slow deliberate draws off a cigar and watch the thick plum of smoke come from it? Well... this is that cigar! Smoked perfect from start to finish and DFH 120 was the perfect libation to pair with it! The perfect medium bodied smoke, a ton a flavor without being a nicotine bomb, well worth the price of admission if you ever visit Casa Fuente, and the eye candy working there ain't bad either!

Awesome review, Craig! These have become a favorite of mine, even better than the Opus and Anejo to me now (close call with a nicely aged Opus, though). The lancero is my favorite, but the cg vitola is a close 2nd (though I enjoy these in any size). So complex, so delicious!

You've inspired me to pick some up! I usually raid the odd sized Opus and grab a CF Lancero when I stop in... but will be on the lookout for the CG. I'll be in Vegas in a couple of weeks... looking forward to it!

The construction on Fuente's high-end smokes never ceases to amaze me. The Anejo Shark is one of my favorite cigars, and the ash holds on forever. I have one Casa Fuente in the humi from a brother here and am looking forward to smoking it.

Sadly I am with Justin on this as well. Great review but not one of my favorite cigars. I have tried alot of the fuente lines but so far I find the OpusX line to be the only one I like.
Damn good looking cigar though!

Have your tried an aged CF? The rumor is that these have the same filler blend as the Opus, so one would presume aging would change this cigar tremendously ... and they'd be correct.

I'll say that while I like the fresh CFs more than the fresh Opus, they are still a lot better with some age (and get better more quickly than the Opus as well). The more age these have, the more similar to the Opus they become in profile, though. They even get that raising thing going, which added to the top-notch Cameroon wrapper yields a cinnamon-raisin thing that's really quite outstanding.

I've only had one but I have a couple more resting in my humi. I've had them for about a year now and couldn't tell you the age on them. I will hold onto them as long as I can and see if alot of age changes my viewpoint. Thanks for the heads up.
