  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Casa Gomez Blends
Today's review will be on both blends. I smoked these a day apart so my palate would be freash on both.

First I must thank Loren for sending me the sampler (3ea Both blends). I am very gratefull and promised him this review. Although it's been over a week I kept full notes on both experiences.

The Blends
Casa Gomez Maduro
Brazilian Arapiraca Maduro wrapper aged 2-3 years
Criollo 98 binder
Dominican and Nicaraguan filler

Casa Gomez Natural

I smoked the Maduro first because...well I like Maduros better. Anyways the cigar itself feels lite in wieght but well packed. The wrapper is nice and smooth with some viens showing. On the light there is what taste like some sweet tobacco and leather. Surprisingly not strong really for the first few drags. You can feel a little bit of a kick to it but for a Maduro it's on the light side.

The Natural has the same feel as the Maduro and Looks. I am not a huge smoker anymore of the Natual wrappers but every now and then it's a good change of pace. The light on this was a bit harsh but settled fast and a creamy leather taste took hold. The smoke was thick and as with the Maduro the draw is perfect. Not to loose and not to tight.

Getting through the first third of the Maduro was easy. It settled into a very pleasent leather/tabacco flavor with just a touch of sweetness to it. The aroma is pleasent and so far it's a nice smoke.

Getting through the Natural was easy as well. It had settled into a creamy leather and mild tobacco flavor. It was a bit to lite on the strength for me but the flavor was pretty decent.

Getting through the second third of the Maduro not much had changed but it did develope a much sweeter taste and hints of Dark coffee/coco as well. The tabacco has a richness to it at this point which settles that leather taste I got. I'm hopeing the rest of this cigar stays just as it is. Strength on this cigar is a solid Medium to full so far.

Getting through the second third of the Natural settled like the Maduro. It hit a nice creamy note and solid tobacco flavor. I didn't pick up any sweet notes on this cigar but it was still pleasent and the smoke was thick.

Ending the final third on the Maduro was simple. It did get a bit bitter at the very end but maintained a nice flavor throughout. The burn was sharp and I only needed to touch it up nearing the end. This cigar in my opinion was very pleasent to smoke and had a nice flavor profile I'd enjoy from time to time. A solid Med-Full smoke.

Ending the final third on the Natural took a bit more work. The burn got funny and tunneled on me so it was bitter and hot. I had to correct this a couple times. It could have been I was smoking it to fast as it was just to mild for my taste. That being said it still provided alot of smoke and creamy tobacco flavors. I'd give this a Medium profile at the most.

Final thoughts on both
For the price I can see the Maduro being the one I'd choose for a once a week change of pace. As far as the Natural, well it wasn't bad either, but just not a cigar that hits my flavor profile.
They are both worth the moderate price in my opinion and I wouldn't hesitate to try both if you haven't. If anything I'd suggest some downtime on both but especially the Maduro. The bitterness of both cigars is still a bit fresh IMHO. If I had to rate both of these cigars I'd say an 88-89 on the Maddy and an 87-88 on the Natural...with some more time I'm sure that would go up.
Again I must thank Loren for the opprtunity to try his cigars and I will be placing a box order for the Maduro's soon.
Thanks for your time!
