Alright guys, forgive me if this question was answered in the monster thread, but I figured it would definitely help me and most of the beginner torcedors around here (technically I think we'd be Torcedoritos, which makes me more hungry than anything). I'm interested in seeing/hearing/reading how you all successfully bring your leaves up to case both for rolling as well as how to safely store the leaf.

I'd like to hopefully start building a bit larger of a collection of leaf to play around with and practice rolling, however I noticed that the first times I rolled my wrapper especially seemed to be under case. I was overeager and brought it up artificially via blasting it with the spray bottle, but anything I can do to refine/improve my processing/storage of the leaf should hopefully help in the future.

Any input/tips are greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Spenny

When it comes to casing, patience can pay off in a big way. Filler usually can get a small short blast with the spray bottle and be good to go if it is dry enough to crack and crumble when working with it. Most of my filler has been good to work with right from the vendors bag. I store working stock in large ziploc bags to retain moisture for filler, binder, and wrapper. My technique for casing binder and wrapper are the same. I have a few trash bags dedicated to bringing binder/wrapper up to case. I spray a fine mist on both sides of the leaf (roughly 2-3 sprays per side) then place in the bag, remove as much air as possible and loosely tie the bag closed. Ideally, I let that sit overnight, then spread the leaf open, strip the mid-rib, then place in the dedicated ziploc for the variety. While stripping the mid-rib I'm also feeling the moisture content of the leaf and elasticity. If the leaf still feels a little dry it gets another gentle mist from the spray bottle before placing in the ziploc. If I sprayed too much then I lay the leaf out flat to dry a little before placing in the bag. Once you get a feel for the leaf, the process can be sped up. I usually let the spritzed leaf sit in the garbage bag at least two hours minimum though.

I did forget to mention that the thickness, size of the leaf, and size of the midrib will all play a part in how much spritzing needs to be done and how long the leaf needs to rest to evenly absorb the moisture. My broadleaf takes much longer than my San Andres or Sumatra.

Filler comes just moist enough from Whole Leaf Tobacco to work just fine as is. Kept in the original bag, in a cooler, you will not have a prob. I have some here a year and more old, never been spritzed, ready to use.

I used to use WLT Habano 2000 wrapper the same way, just as it came from the bag. All's I did was lay it between layers of a damp towel for a few before using it. Here lately, I have started batching my wrapper, tho. I started doing that because I got some big-veined wrapper that wouldn't lay flat. So I de-stem a bunch, damp it up good, stretch each half flat as I can, let it set overnight in its bag in the garage beer fridge (finally discovered why a beer fridge has a lettuce drawer!), then stretch it again next day, then back in the fridge, then stretch again, then back. Eventually get stacks of far flat and pleasantly pliable stuff. One half of a leaf goes into a stack of left-handers; the other into a stack of right-handers. I am liking this way. I wind up with a wad of nice damp wrapper and binder ready to rock and roll. All's I do is yank one off the wad, roll down the veins, and set to work. Easy street. Fridge keeps them good to go.

I like that "torcedoritos", Spenny. I snatched torcedors.com for some undetermined future use... I shoulda snatched torcedoritos as well. Maybe I will. I also snatched up irollcigars.com; but bliss man thinks that sounds like an Apple product. I need to set these domains live. Too many projects and too much work all at the same time. Then Bearswatter lays a log and I get side-tracked plunging the toilet. I tell you, I am busier old than I ever was young.

I'm having good luck with this gizmo:

It's called a diffuser. I was at yoga, I noticed one running, diffusing essential oils. Now, I think of oils that are essential, I naturally think of butter. That's not what my yogini means. She means some super expensive girlie stinkum. Course, I don't put stinkum in mine. My yogini, her diffuser if some imitation stone. I sent Bearswatter out to find one, she brings me back this wooden one, cause she says it goes better with my decor. Who knew I have a decor. You can get 'em cheaper plastic.

Thing to notice is, these diffusers don't use heat to make steam -- they use ultrasonic to make vapor. That's why the vapor comes out the top and drops right down. Drops right onto the rolling board. Keeps your wrapper damp. I like it.

I can 't tell you what the ring of light is sposed to do. You can configure lavender, yellow, blue, etc; or you can configure it to cycle thru colors; or off. Doesn't hold much water, but lasts thru a long rolling session

I like it.

That's a lot of ethyl, acid, and acetate. No wonder they call them cancer sticks. Glad I kicked that habit long ago

I can post structures of all these compounds lol. These are fundamental building blocks for me, aka my Legos in the lab

Are you kidding!!! That's one of my secret favorite flavor profiles!!! It blends perfectly with either of these...

Buttacidhole... 'rancid, taco bean, skidmarked, fart filled underpants'
or
Infantexcrementacetate... 'rotting diapers'. Adds a depth and nuance to any cigar.

I'd like to see the 'structures' of these Hopduro. :)

What's funny is that's what butyric acid smells/tastes like. Which also happens to be on the list.

That list is as fascinating as it is disgusting. DW works good enough for me lol.
