  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Looking for some recommendations for a nice bottle on christmas eve.

The wife loves asti spumante.

I like Moet White Star, she doesn't. says it's too dry.

Neither of us like brut.

Any suggestions for something that has a little bit of sweetness but still has that nice clean flavor and mouth feel?

Price point in mind?

One of our favorites that would fit what you're describing is a Louis Roederer Crystal Rose (and I'd go with a rose no matter what, given her apparent tastes).

If you have wine store that's extensive, look for 1996 or 2002 stock of whatever you get - these were the last greatest vintages for the Champagne region that are still available in stores.

I can write you up a much more extensive list of what's been good these days if I know a min/max price point... even if you wanna do it through PMs...
hmm. somehow i had totally forgotten about roses.

pricepoint...$100 or below.

I've got a few wine stores that are accessible. i'm also not at all above calling them to see if they have what i'm looking for or even having them make special orders.

gimme that list! please.

nice choices Jim.

I would also add

bollinger NV or rose
fuellatte rose
piper hiedsieck rose savage
billecart salmon rose or NV

good luck in your selections. Let us know what you decide.

some great offerings there. I've enjoyed reading the reviews on several of these. Now i'm pretty excited to see what they have to offer when I hit up the wine shop when I get back home.

Funny, I never really considered that roses could be so complex. I guess I just had it in my head that all the good champagnes were golden, clear, whatever. just never gave the roses the respect they obviously deserve.

the list as been made and we'll see what they have.

thanks gents.

Two words,........Pierre Peters! One of the rising stars of the grower's champagnes in France. I will take the Pepsi challenge with this champagne against any champagne under $150 in the world. Pierre Peters has turned the world of champagne upside down delivering classic champagne with an explosion of flavor,.....all for around $50 a bottle. This is a champagne drinkers champagne, no doubt about it.

AZcigarNut also recommended Ruinart. This is a great champagne as well. I love it.

Best of both worlds, get both bottles each of you can have your own bottle and have a GREAT NIGHT!

But that is just me.....I too prefer White Star!

I'd recommend the Louis Roederer Carte Blanche. Its an extra dry style (sweeter than Brut) but it doesn't have any cloying sweetness in the finish. A great Champagne for under $50.

You have excellent taste my friend! I love this champagne. I also love Vilmart Coeur de Cuvee in this price range.
