  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cheap, decent cigars?

Hello,

Smoking is largely a social activity for me. I'm in college and enjoy smoking with with friends. The problem is most of my college friends do not know much about cigars and don't own any of their own, so I always end up supplying, which isn't a big deal, it just gets expensive fast.

What is a good, dirt cheap cigar that my wallet and conscious can feel good about giving to friends?

Thanks,
Jacob

I'm personally a fan of 5 Vegas cigars. The Classics and Golds aren't bad smokes for a daily stick, and they'll only run you under $2 each. Not dirt cheap, but definitely affordable and good for other fellas that you want to share with and don't know much about cigars.

I think the better solution is to get rid of your cheap friends. I can see providing for friends who aren't serious about smoking however if I can out of fingers to count on then I'm going to suggest they invest in a tupperdor.

I say buy up some of those gigantic "100-cigars-for-$99-bucks" type of deals from Famous-Smoke or Cigars International.

Honestly, those buck-a-stick bundles are just fine for cheap giveaways. They're real cigars, a million times better than gas-n-sip White Owls or Philies.

LOL.

Undergrads don't have much disposable income and none of them are serious smokers, in fact most only smoke when hanging with me. No reason to ditch my good friends. I'm happy to accommodate them, I just want to do it in an economical way.

bring em with you to a cigar shop. maybe when they see how much a good cigar can cost, they'll pitch in. maybe even buy some. then you can let them use some space in your humi. then, if you're lucky, they'll get into it and get their own humis. i know that for me, half the fun is buying a new stick.

Joes daily deal on Cigars International. For $30 bucks delivered you can get 10 or more good smokes. Check it until you see something you like.

Ditto. Great deals to be had, and 10 or so sticks isn't too much of a risk either.

Here is today's deal!

One that I like is the Alec Bradley Harvest Selection '97...about $2/stick and really quite a good smoke on all counts, IMVHO. I also love the 5 Vegas series...the Gold is a go-to for me, the A is a great dark (not sweet) maduro.

I had my first La Herencia Cubana yesterday. Those aren't bad cheap smokes at all. CI price is around $50 for a box, but they run deals often on those. Gispert and Padilla Obsidian are others.

Have to agree with the Flor de Oliva. Another good one are the Fumadores at Holts. On sale right now. Great price point. Made by Pepin.

My other favorite cheap smokes (my everyday smoke price is $2, so that's what I mean by cheap) include:

Rocky Patel 2nds (tons of them, all good imho)
Padron Londres (one of my current favorites regardless of price!)
La Vieja Habana (lots of choices)
Sol Cubano
Gran Habano (especially the #5 Corojo)
CI Legends series
Torano 1916
Gurkha (several)
Indian Tabac (Cameroon Legend and Super Fuerte)

FYI--I buy most of my cigars on either cbid or "super sales" on various sites.

I would just tell your boys to pitch in a few bucks. If they are willing to pitch in then you can hand out whatever!! Me and Daviso27 had this conversation the other day!!

If you're gonna share with friends that don't usually smoke I'd recommend something mild like a La Aurora #4 for like 2 bucks a stick. It's a pretty good Cameroon considering the price. If you don't care about the bands you can pick 'em up as seconds for about a buck a piece!
