Okay, so I took the plunge and ordered a couple of tins of pipe tobacco, along with a corncob pipe (since they're supposed to smoke pretty well for cheap pipes). I'd like to pick up a briar pipe as well, if I get into this. Has anybody tried the low-end Savinelli pipes? How do they smoke? I'm looking at something like this:

I have a couple of Savinelli Bing's Favorites which look and smoke just as well as my Dunhill silver mounted Bing Crosby, which cost ten times as much.

Lesson: Dunhills are outrageously overpriced and Savinellis are often fabulous values.

Look especially for the straight-grained Fiammata, marked A Savinelli Product.

Check out Frenchy's for some great priced Sav' Naturals. I haven't gotten one myself yet, but my next order will be with Frenchy.

I'd like to get back into pipe smoking but don't want to pay that much. I use to have a couple of savinellis and loved them. Anywhere that you can pay about $70 or less?

I ended up buying a Savinelli from Cigarmony's inventory reduction sale for just over $40. Here are a few:

Yep, I have several Savinelli's and they all smoke great after a little break-in...I've never been disappointed with a Savinelli...nor a Stanwell, or a Peterson either...both of these companies have some great inexpensive pipes too...

I have smoked pipes for about 30 years and have over 200 pipes in my collection and offer this:
Over Dunhill, Peterson, Charatan and Scandanavians, I prefer Savinelli. Their quality is as good as it gets and their designs are both varied and superb.
