  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Cheap Soft Lighter Suggestions?

So I figured with all the knowledge floating around this place, someone is bound to of come across what i'm looking for. I use torches more often than soft flame, but soft flames are more aesthetic to me for some reason. My only experience with soft flame lighters are BICs and Zippos. My issues are that BICs always burn my thumb and every zippo I've ever owned has had reliability issues. I've been in the market for a soft flame refillable butane lighter that is large enough to not burn the tip of my thumb. Additionally, I tend to lose lighters fairly often so i'd prefer to keep the expense to a minimum ($10-$30 would be about my ideal price range). I was curious if any BOTL had experience with cheapy soft flames, and could lend their opinions to someone less knowledgeable.

Thanks!

Best "cheapie" soft flame lighter I have ever used.. (and refillable!)...

I like them so much.. that I now own about 10 of them (bought a couple of packs when CVS stopped carrying tobacco products last year.. plus got bombed by yodis with a few, etc..).. I keep them in my truck, in my traveldors, in my desk drawer, etc.. they are pretty much the only soft flame I use anymore..

I saw a thread on those prior to posting this, but I don't seem to have any local stores that carry them. I called CVS,wall greens, rite aid, Walmart and target... nada. Also, can't seem to any web pages that have them for sale.

I like my Yibao. I think I paid $3 shipped for two of them from China.
Those look neat! Did you get it off ebay or? and does it take a zippo flint?

Hey brother - ZippoGeek strenuously objects to this statement! Seriously though, the best darn cigar lighter I own is a Blazer GB2001 commercial / hobby torch that adjusts to let you use both the torch feature and soft flame. Chefs use them for creme brûlée. I absolutely love mine. For me, the biggest draw is its huge butane reservoir - easily double that of the biggest table-top lighters. And unlike finicky torch lighters (even the best Xikar can cause headaches), this puppy lights every single time. Two caveats:
1. At $47, it exceeds your price range. But it's well worth it when you consider the closest high-end table-top lighter is a hundred bucks. (n)
2. It's rather inelegant (okay, it's downright ugly). But if you can get past the looks, she's a winner! (y)
In the first pic, you can barely see the torch, but it's there. Love the soft flame feature - works like a charm!

I've been using Djeep lighters for quite some time. I have a few Tatuaje ones that seem to last forever. They're nothing super special, and they are not refillable, but I know that they will always light (unless there's a ton of wind obviously). Doesn't hurt that they are cheap! I think I bought a brick of 12 for $20 or something like that. I'll see if I can find a link.

All that being said, I have yet to try a Ronson. And you might find them too close to a Bic for your liking. I don't notice my fingers getting hot on Djeeps like they do on Bics, but everyone's different.

Got mine on ebay.
Not sure on the flints, as I haven't had to replace them yet.
I was curious because all the ebay listing I found stated "ships without fuel or flint". But I really like the look of them.

That thing is a monster! I may have to get one just in case I need to cut some sheet metal while enjoying a smoke haha.

I hadn't heard of these prior. I think i've seen them at my local gas station. I'll grab one after work today. Would work great as a 'leave in the car' lighter. Thanks for the suggestion!

Lump me in with the Djeep/Zippo crowd, started using Djeep lighters a few months back and really dig them. I buy Djeeps at gas stations/liquor stores if I see a cool ones :) but you can buy in bulk on amazon or ebay and same some $$$. I like refillable lighters though so I recently bought a soft flame butane insert for my zippo and have a feeling that will be my go to for a while.

For cigars and pipes, Djeep. Period. Especially for pipes because your finger is further away from the flame than with a Bic.
Same ones I've been rocking. Love how long they last, my biggest problem is how often I have to refill my torch lighters, I feel like I fill it up twice a week, I usually carry a torch and one of these in my pocket, so when an all to often problem arises with my torch, I'll have this as a backup.

I've had the Xikar in the picture here for a few months and I hate it. Takes multiple attempts to light. Always running out of fuel. The Djeeps never fail and they're cheap. Djeep = winning

^^^^ This. I saw these at CVS for a $1 a piece and they came in paks of 3 so I bought about 3 paks and leave em everywhere...still working over a year.
