Chocolate bacon cupcakes with maple bacon icing!

Okay so I've been wanting to do this for a while. So today i'm trying it. I have taken a cake recipe out of the Joy of Cooking and have replaced some of the butter with bacon fat. Additionally I have finely chopped some bacon to throw in the batter. I will report back once they're out of the oven and share the recipe if it turns out well.

So I must have done something wrong. The recipe I made was supposed to make 24 cupcakes but I ended up with 12. Who knows they feel the same weight as a cupcake so I'll know after I ice them.

The icing, by the way, tastes awesome so far. I boiled the syrup to cook it down a little bit more and added a bacon strip and some finely diced bacon. It smells like breakfast. Now just to let it reduce down a little bit and add the heavy cream with the butter. I had some bacon fat reserved for this part but my wife so kindly washed it for me. Just my luck, she rarely cleans the kitchen, except when she senses she can be a pain in my ass she decides to clean the kitchen.

Yeah I love going to world market and picking up the bacon chocolate bar its freakin amazing!

I used less than half the salt for that very reason.

Okay the icing rocks. The cup cakes themselves need some work. They came out more like brownies in cups instead of fluffy cupcakes. I will work on this again and update as I perfect the recipe.

The Cupcake Brewery makes some stunning cupcakes and they are all made from beer from local breweries here in my area!

Impressive. I just do stupid stuff like this for fun. If I end up making beer for a living I only want to do that and not be distracted by other stuff like food and desserts.
