Cigar #3 LFD Coronado (aged 6 years)
I was gifted this cigar by TobaccoWhacko, to do a blind review. Here are my thoughts
Aroma at cold is hay and leather. Rich, but smooth. Cold draw reveals a grassy sweetness with pepper spice.
The first draw after lighting up was perfection easy, with a slight resistance. The smoke was peppery, but smooth, much like a well-aged Pepin. The body was full right from the start, the smoke had a very thick essence to it. The flavors at first were all grass, hay, leather, and peppery spices.
Its very full and very complex throughout. As it develops, theres toffee overtones that are just phenomenal, and a hint of espresso in the background. The smoke takes on a very creamy essence that sticks around for most of the length. My favorite part was probably the latter second third through the beginning of the final third. I find most cigars tend to warm, and the warming of the flavors tends to add richness. This was no exception, and I very much enjoyed it until the cigar got too hot to smoke.
I paired this with a root beer, and the two blended very nicely. The sweetness of the root beer complimented the richness and creaminess of the cigar in a very pleasant way.
I never tried one of these fresh, so I have no idea what to compare it to, but it would appear to me that age did wonders for this cigar. I have smoked a few other LFDs and found them too bold, and pretty rough around the edges. At 6 years old, this Coronado was creamy, rich, and yet still bold. Im guessing I wouldn't have enjoyed it fresh, it would likely have been too much green wood and pepper, but over the years it has smoothed any rough edges into complex flavor developments.
A very enjoyable experience, thanks again!
