  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I am in the market for a draw poker for when I encounter a tightly wrapped cigar. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know some people make their own which I wouldn't mind doing to save some money.
What diameter do you want the poker to be?
What does everyone use?

I use an ice pick that cost about $1.50 at grocery store. In the car, I've replaced it with a few bamboo skewers, since I was skeered I'd get hassled by the man at military base gate if found during random inspection.

What is the diameter of the poker? 1/8 inch or smaller? I am not sure unwant a huge hole poker in my cigar. I imagine uy wotld concentrate too much smoke make it burn hotter and bitter. What size diameter should I be looking for?

I use bamboo barbecue skewers that you can buy in packs of probably 100 at the supermarket. I keep one in each of my cigar cases, traveldors and humidors and just replace them if they break. Works great.

It is a relatively small hole. I love mine from Boom, in fact I have 3. One at home, one at work and one in my truck. Fortunately, I have not had to use mine that often.

I've got one of boom's pokers that I have with me at all times when I'm smoking. It's saved many a stick since I got it. However, I have encountered some cigars that were so tightly wrapped, that the wrapper split when I inserted the poker. I've since picked up a few very thin drill bits that I use from time to time, if I've got doubts about the wrapper staying in one piece.

Thanks everyone for your help! I have decided to breakdown and just buy one. I am torn between the Don Salvatore Havana draw enhancer and the havana draw enhancer pen style. Oh the hard decisions in life!!!

I have both of them. They both work well. The pen has grooves , files the tobacco a bit , is very portable and better for clearing a bad draw. The draw poker is a smooth poker but the fact that the cigar sits on that plastic makes the poker go straight so your less likely to split wrappers which is really nice. The draw poker is big and not as portable. If the draw poker had a end like the pen it would be great. I have not had many draw issues since I changed to 65% humidity. Hope this helps. Good luck!!
