  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I'm sure if you are within distance of some good towns with large populations and you prices are fair and you do some good word of mouth advertising anything is possible. Everything is a risk you never know if it's gonna work sometimes until you take that first step.

do some market research, take polls. find out if there would be enough interest to open one.

You may want to think of a private club instead of just a tobacco shop. As the smoke Nazis get legislation passed all over the country people are looking for a place to smoke; especially in the colder parts of the country.

As stated above, the cigar nazis are always something to think about. A cigar shop with a private club is a great idea, but just as any business, there are many issues that come up. BUsiness is a risky business, just like the stock market. But taking chances is also what makes money.

Do some good research using many tools, RTDA, society input, etc. Base your decision on the fact and use your intuition. As Smoking bans become more and more common place, plus the potential for the SCHIF legisilation to change the cost of all tobacco products with a new President, risk becomes a higher factor.

Just my 2 cents. I have been contemplating the same idea of a private club though.

We have been open as a private, members only, club since June of 06. We sell no tobacco but, rather, look to the cigar shops as a source of members.

We also do not sell adult beverages, it's a bring your own. We have 4200 sq ft with several rooms including a humidified locker room and a banquet room where we hold monthly catered dinners with either a cigar or liquor rep in attendance. We also run other events throughout the year.

We have over 150 members, are reasonably priced, and have never had a negative month financially.

You need to research "Market Research". NEVER- NEVER- NEVER open a business without doing market research.
