  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ok, Here is the Question. I have been smoking cigars for almost 2 years now. When I light up a corona sized cigars, or even a lonsdale. None of them ever last longe than 45 mins. If I wait longer betwen puffs, then they start going out. I guess the question is how large of a draw do you guys take off a cigar? When I was dabling in pipe smoking my father said don't draw it like a cigar, or you will blister your tongue. So do you kind of "Sip" on a cigar too? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i take what the cigar will give! i want smoke! if that means i have to draw, then i draw! if it's troublesome, i tend to give up (depending on the smoke) and move on to a stick that's more giving.

I used to smoke very fast and do the double puff (take a puff and then a quick puff right away after) to get more smoke. But then someone told me by slowing down the tobacco burns slower and you get more flavors. The hotter it burns you get more tannins etc. So I have developed a much slower smoking rate over the years, about a puff a minute. I get MUCH more flavor from a cigar this way. I also tend to draw more slowly for the same reason. If you draw quickly the tobacco will burn hotter. So I guess you could say I sip it rather than gulp it. When fredneck gave me a diadema at a herf last year it took me over 3 hours to smoke, and even then there was still a third of it left! The largest cigar I like to smoke anymore is a churchill, I can't give up my beloved Sir Winnies or RyJ Churchills!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coronas are fairly small cigars and, IME, only last about 45 minutes or so. The rule of thumb is to take a puff about once a minute. If you want your cigar to last longer, try smoking bigger cigars.

Then your cigars might be too wet. Maybe lower your RH levels. 45 minutes for a lonsdale or corona is smoking too fast.

I tend to draw pretty deeply on my sticks and puff once every 45-50 seconds on average. Seems my PC last 50 minutes and most lonsdale or corona easily last more than 1 hour.

i usually take a small puff then a larger slower puff about every minute. IMO i get good flavor and large amounts of smoke by doing this. just when you take the second longer puff do it slowly as not to over heat the cigar as TUBAMAN said.

Huh, So when you guys draw on the cigar, you really get a big solid draw on the cigar. I was thinking about trying to do small draws, and see if there is a taste difference. Cause I can kill a PC in less than 30 Min. I can Kill a VSG Illusion in less than an hour. That is just wrong.

I am looking for smoke. If I dont get it on the first hit, I take a second. The problem with this is when I get a perfect drawing cigar, I tend to smoke it too fast. I have been experimenting with semi plugged sticks and taking my time to get them to smoke. This has slowed down the time it takes in a big way. There is just no way to race these as they heat up and taste like shit. Slow and easy with easy draws. Looking for flavor and smoke. I also watch guys that smoke slowly. AZsteelan is an excellent example. He draws, enjoy the smoke, put sthe cigar down, talks, and generally takes all day to enjoy the cigar. The biggest thing I have found is it is not the draw or the puffs, it is to just slow down and take my time. Much more enjoyable. 2 cents.

It takes me over an hour to finish a Corona. I tend to smoke slowly for the reasons that Tuba gave. I tend to not pick up anything larger than a Churchill because I seldom have more than a couple of hours to spend smoking. Personally, I'm happy to seem more Coronas, PCs and Lonsdales.

I just thought of something else Donk: Are you smoking outside or in a car with the window open? If so the cold may be making the cherry go out more quickly. To make fire you need fuel, oxygen, and heat. Remove the heat with very cold air kills the fire.
