I received this unsolicited e-mail today, the least they could have done was use a parser which grabs the first name of the recipient!
Dear ,,
A few friends and I are building a new, free cigar web site called CigarSteward.com. While the current stuff out there is alright, there are capabilities that we would like to use that apparently aren't available in any software or site. So we are building it ourselves and making it available to everyone for free on the web. Our sole objective is to add a bit to the delight of smoking a good cigar.
Our site is built on the basic features of tracking both the cigars that you own and your tasting notes. And we think that people will appreciate the novel way that we've designed it. But the interesting stuff is what we can do once that is in system. For those that enjoy trying new cigars, we've built a tool that lets you trade cigars with other members of the community a technical twist on the cigar pass. You just indicate both the cigars you are willing to trade and the cigars that you want to try. Our software finds potential swaps for you, and makes the initial introductions if you are interested in proceeding. For the longer term, we also will have a sophisticated personalized suggestion engine, just like the best online retail web sites, which will predict new cigars you might like based on the cigars that you' ve owned and rated. And we have many more cool ideas for future site enhancements.
We aren't really cigar experts, which is why we are entering our beta test. We will rely on the feedback from other cigar smokers to tell us how to improve what we have so far, as well as to tell us what new features to build. In fact, the future direction of the site will be determined by our community of users.
If you are interested in taking a look at our beta test, click on this link to register.
Of course, there aren't very many cigars in the database yet. And there are certain to be some bugs that we haven't caught. But you can definitely get a sense of the vision that we have for the site. And we're committed to continue to build it out as long as there is an interest in the community in what we're creating.
Thanks,
George
P.S. As a special recognition for our beta testers, we are sponsoring a contest. The tester who enters the most tasting notes into our database by 3/31/08 will receive a free $250 gift certificate from Cigars International (full details on site). So be sure to register today.
