I smoked this one the other day and then another one last night. It is considered La Flor Dominicana's top of the line smoke, which they are extremely proud of. I was told prior to smoking it that it was more on the medium end of the flavor line, but keep an open mind, which I did.
Pre light inspection showed a nice medium dark colored wrapper with some veins. It was oily and well wrapped. I have smoked oth the Toro and Churchill sizes. Aromas of spice, coffee and cocoa shine throuhg on these cigars. Unlit taste on the crown was coffee and cocoa with a hint of sweetness. A good pre-light draw with just a small cat eye cut.
As I lit the cigar, it had a great draw and lit very easily. Burn was very nice and even. Nice light grey and medium grey ashes, which stayed compact on the stick. The flavor or coffee and cocoa remained, although I picked up hints of vanilla and licorice a few times. It had some sweetness, but not enought to detract from the very smooth taste. No foul aftertaste on this one at all. The cigar had a spring near the burn, but nothing that tampered with the wrap, flavor or burn.
The burn and draw remained very good during all stages of this cigar. Slight flavor changes came through on the final third, with hints of leather, light pepper and coffee coming through. THE cigar was not hot, even when I got to the final 1 1/2 ". Great flavor on both cigars, although I enjoyed the Toro even more, as both cigars lasted well over two hours. Now, thats enjoyment.
Overall these cigars are great. Although I am a more full flavored cigar Smoker, this one impressed me as a great smoke. At a $7 to 10 cigar, depending on the size, this is a great cigar. I rate this one a 8.5 out of 10 and will most definitely smoke this one again and again. Again, do not let the smoothness of this cigar fool you. It is a great cigar which can add to any great port, wine, single malt, beer or whatever you may like to drink with it.
So you know, the Toro, I smoked with a Monster energy drink and water. The Churchill I smoked with a 40 Year old port last night and it was incredible.
Hope this helps.
