  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I smoked this one the other day and then another one last night. It is considered La Flor Dominicana's top of the line smoke, which they are extremely proud of. I was told prior to smoking it that it was more on the medium end of the flavor line, but keep an open mind, which I did.

Pre light inspection showed a nice medium dark colored wrapper with some veins. It was oily and well wrapped. I have smoked oth the Toro and Churchill sizes. Aromas of spice, coffee and cocoa shine throuhg on these cigars. Unlit taste on the crown was coffee and cocoa with a hint of sweetness. A good pre-light draw with just a small cat eye cut.

As I lit the cigar, it had a great draw and lit very easily. Burn was very nice and even. Nice light grey and medium grey ashes, which stayed compact on the stick. The flavor or coffee and cocoa remained, although I picked up hints of vanilla and licorice a few times. It had some sweetness, but not enought to detract from the very smooth taste. No foul aftertaste on this one at all. The cigar had a spring near the burn, but nothing that tampered with the wrap, flavor or burn.

The burn and draw remained very good during all stages of this cigar. Slight flavor changes came through on the final third, with hints of leather, light pepper and coffee coming through. THE cigar was not hot, even when I got to the final 1 1/2 ". Great flavor on both cigars, although I enjoyed the Toro even more, as both cigars lasted well over two hours. Now, thats enjoyment.

Overall these cigars are great. Although I am a more full flavored cigar Smoker, this one impressed me as a great smoke. At a $7 to 10 cigar, depending on the size, this is a great cigar. I rate this one a 8.5 out of 10 and will most definitely smoke this one again and again. Again, do not let the smoothness of this cigar fool you. It is a great cigar which can add to any great port, wine, single malt, beer or whatever you may like to drink with it.

So you know, the Toro, I smoked with a Monster energy drink and water. The Churchill I smoked with a 40 Year old port last night and it was incredible.

Hope this helps.

Nice review Bill.

I didn't have the same luck you did with the Coronado...and was ready to not smoke them again. Your review is making me rethink my stance though...maybe I'll hunt one down this weekend.

Rob,

I was the same way, thinking it wasn't going to be good till a friend of mine told me to stop being a Tat snob.. lol.. Made me laguh and I smoked it. It was really nice. Smooth and exremely enjoyable. But it is not a full flavorer, full bodied cigar.

I am going to buy some of the Churchill's today, so let me know if you have trouble and I will get one or two out to you, for a second opinion. I still have a hard time picking out othrr flavors in the cigars, so I only post what taste/flavors i can identify.

Nice review!!!! This cigar knocked me on my ass when I tried it, and I usually have no problem knocking down strong cigars. Need to give it another try and see what happens.

I was also knocked on my but when I tried it. I let some sit around for 7 months to mellow and it still floored me. I also do not get floored by cigars that often, this one really creeps up on me.

I like the coronado. I always keep a few LFD double ligero chisels in my humi to remind me that cigars can be mind altering.

I like it alot earlier in the day. I made the mistake of smoking it late once. I will not waste another that way.

Great review .

It's always best to tune out other peoples conceptions before smoking a stooge for the first time. I heard all of the " Coronado just like a Lusitania !!!" BS and that initially turned me off. That stick has its own merits and should be enjoyed for them ... not as a Partagas substitute.

Nice review. I had one of these this past summer and thought that it was all hype. After reading this review, I may have to give it one more try if I come across one.
