Could it be my tensioner?

Hey fellow BOTL'ers,

I own a 1995 Chevy G20 conversion van for work. It's a great vehicle and has a little over 123,000 miles on it. Recently, there has been a annoying squeaking going on whenever I crank it the morning (especially when it's cold outside) and when I accelerate at a stop light. The serpentine belt is new, I replaced it when I changed the AC compressor to a pulley. Could it be the tensioner or something else. I thought maybe the water pump but I haven't seen any changes in water temp gauge wise. Just want to run it by the car/truck guys out there.

Thanks, I was thinking so. I would hate to play with the belt and find out I was wrong. The van is very tall and frankly its a pain to do anything on the front of the engine.

I had that problem with my truck once. After much troubleshooting it turned out to be the belt itself. The belt I had used cotton fibers that absorbed the good ole Mississippi moisture on rainy days. I switched to a Gatorback belt and haven't had the problem since.

Get ya one of these to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. around $10.

could be one of several bearings as well.

Spray the belt with some "rubber dressing", van get at NAPA, Action or any place that carries that type of stuff.

Spray the belt with some "rubber dresorsing", van get at NAPA, Action or any place that carries that type of stuff.

Ditto this....all noise was gone after a day of driving and mine was squeeling like a pig from Deliverance.

Could be bearings in the water pump, which may have no direct affect on it's performance, but might soon if not fixed.

i agree with boppa and cigary, try belt dressing first, if not check for play in anything that spins ( water pump, etc.) for a junk bearing
