  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Couple new gifted cigars....yup that bad

So my Dad and brother went to the DR last week and they know how much I like my cigars. I got over to see my Dad today to find these waiting for me.....ugh.
The Case is supposed to be Cohibas made in the DR licensed from Cuba, and the second is just humongous. I took a pic of a T52 Toro next to it for comparison, but the RG doesn't show up very well, it has to be about a 70 RG.
I was happy that they tried, but at what point do you tell them to stop lol.
I have yet to open the "Esplendidos", I can only imagine...

Esplendidos! You lucky son of a duckling! :rolling:

If it makes you feel any better, friends of mine brought me back one of those giant cigars from the DR last year. It was quite novel, or so I thought until it was brought to my attention that they actually wished of me to smoke it. So as not to hurt their feelings, I obliged, but upon inspection came to find that due to its enormous size news paper had been used as a filler in place of tobacco. As luck would have it, I manged to sway them from smoking the gigantic faux cigar after advising them on the potential health risks involved with sucking on a large burning column of news paper and whatever else may have been used as a filler, they were however mildly disappointed.

If you're going to keep those cigars in your humidor(s) for whatever reason, curio, gags, conversation piece, etc, put them and their boxes in the freezer for about a week to ten days, as it is anyone's guess what level of diligence, or lack thereof, was exercised in the prevention of contamination from beetles.

I do not ever plan on smoking that huge stick, it will be a show piece beside my cigar mold and cigar pipe. I might give those other 5 a try as filler sticks when I am working around the yard this summer.
As for the humi, it is a mini fridge not a thermoelectric. If I got real creative, I could install a cut out to keep it running only down to a certain temp, but in my basement the temp only gets up to about 68-69 during the winter and about 65-66 in the summer. The thing works hot damn though! and it didnt cost me a thing as I had it just sitting around before I got heavy into cigars. Gonna need a cabinet soon tbough the way tbings are going since joining BOTL :)

It was a nice gesture. I was recently gifted a cognac and bourbon cigar. I will smoke both to not be rude...then I will adamantly lie about how great they were and insist they don't feel like they have to buy me cigars again.
