Austinoir
The luckiest guy in Shawshank
Great light, plumes of smoke (took a suggestion from another reviewer and didn't inhale til full cherry).
Suprisingky, fresh taste was what I noticed first. Great, even flavors of light pepper, hay and earth, nice and rich on the tongue already-no chocolate or cocoa. Great clean smell. Tastes like a Connecticut, but unlike the ones I've had, more consistent in flavor. Draw is extremely easy, mouth filling up w smoke each puff-me likey.
Flavor starting to even out.
Still riding a nice wave of flavor, more mild than medium. Another new techniques, taking fewer puffs (normally I do 2-3 draws a minute to ensure ventilation, now trying one draw a minute)-tough sledding since foot is burning at an angle (I lit the unburned part to deal with that and off and running again).
For what looked like a solid brick of dark tobacco, I smelled the body pre-light and only received a faint hint of tobacco and no notable smells, like smoke would be later, almost mellow (this cigar doesn't offend w strong flavors nor smells). Speaking of smoke not as much on the draw now. But, that smooth creamy flavor keeps my mouth company after the exhale: no plumes anymore, just streams now, every other draw...but loving that smooth taste which has worked it's way to the back of my throat.
The ash was a nice greyish white, held on during first 3rd.
The temperature is a nippy 60, w a slight breeze a little after midnight. Okay, enough pussyfooting, I take a good strong draw and am hit with a good mouthful of luciously smooth smoke that washes smoothly over my tounge. Funny, just realized I haven't had any bitter or harsh tastes so far, just smooveville, Daddy O. Stick is still burning uneven, but that's the only issue-I'm good. More draws and still no hint of harshness, but I'm weary. Realizing this sexy beast craves more attention than I'm giving her, but I'm sticking with the plan, this ain't no dog rocket, it's a lady, but I hope I get to see how much by the end. About halfway ash falls off, puffing clouds like an opium hookah-again, me likey. Let's see if this temptress can bring it home. Ok, there is a mild kick of harsh pepper, but it's so faint I let it slip by. This lady's been good to me.
I take a swig of Redd green apple ale and it mixes well with the smoke in my mouth, like old lovers reuniting. But, on each new exhale I'm starting to taste a quickly dissapating harshness on the back of my throat-see, she's not so easy after all...tramp. But once I knock off the ash and blow that cherry hot again, she's right back to being putty in my hands. That's my girl.
I take another swig of hooch and she's ready for me, nice little bump when I draw strong, oh we're going to do well together I think, still smooth through the last 3rd. So much smoke now, any hookah would be jealous of my dark Honduran baby. I keep my rhythm steady at one draw a minute to assure her I'm in control. Hell, her smoke is struggling to leave my mouth as I blow ever so slowly. I got her I think. This last 3rd is where I assert whose the master and whose the slave. It's all over...and there will be no cuddling. Another swig of the ale and it mixes perfectly to let the liquor tell it. I'm not in a hurry I want to savor my prize...my victory...my conquest. Ash falls off again, no worries (more uneven burn). Still smooth and creamy, so much love...yup she's a keeper. Down to the nub now, but she keeps putting out quality smoke, hint of pepper in the lips, a mouth full of creamy puffy clouds, and the cherry is still smouldering but no heat has reached my fingers. The smell is still clean and earthly like a fresh morning dew in a field of hay-again, me likey.
I'd swear the smoke plumes are dancing as they rise up to the night sky laughing swirling higher and higher. And while it's good to be the king, this little pauper is not doing so bad either. I'm starting to get more pepper tickling my lips on my exhales, she's a saucy one I tells ya...she's going to leave me wanting more. At the nub and want to go past. Dare I? Oh, yeah, she hits me w a burst of fullness-that's the ticket! Loving the nub, suckling, just a few draws more...dare I, again? I must! But, then I get slapped with a harshness of tar which tells me I stayed too long...but could you blame a guy?
Damn that was good.
My conclusion is that I've had this cigar before...it's like deva vu all over again (Yogi Berra). I realize this is a Connecticut in a maduro's body. And while not flavorful as a few of the maduros I've had, it was a good smoke...extremely consistent and reminiscent of a BETTER Factory Throwout or a SMOOTHER CREAMIER AF Curly head Maduro. Good thing is I was finally able to grasp the flavors I've heard about in the reviews. The smoke cost me $3.95. It lacked punch, strong pepper overtone and flavors, but was well constructed (it had a smooth matte finish and no waxy taste as I continued to put it to my lips) and it was a consistent smoke. While I got a thing for bold flavored maduros right now, this little lady could keep me going for the price and quality of smoke due to its value. And while I'll continue to seek bolder flavors, the lack of bold flavors for this stick isn't a problem for this newbie. So, while I'll be moving on, I'll be thinking of my little dark Honduran (maduro) baby.View media item 47864
