  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

According to my spiral ring notebook of cigar bands, I've smoked 18 different cigars so far. My last one was the best so far, in spite of it's issues.

The Cuba Libre One, one cigar among many I received in a cigar bomb.

The aroma was a sweet hay and barnyard aroma.

Upon cutting the cap, the draw was extremely loose. Probably the loosest draw I've experienced so far. Practically no resistance whatsoever. I feared that this would be a quick smoke because of it. Boy was I wrong!

I started smoking, concentrating on drawing slowly so as not to overheat the cigar. I got lots of thick smoke, and a smooth tobacco flavor.

About half an inch in, the draw started to tighten up a little, but still on the loose side. I could tell the flavors were developing, but I couldn't quite pick them out yet. But I was getting a medium pepper zing.

About halfway through the stick I was getting a light coco flavor, with toasty coffee notes developing later on.

Toward the end, the cigar didn't develop into what I've come to know as the "end cigar flavor". While I did get a hint of it, it wasn't near as strong as all the other cigars I've had. The flavor stayed good all the way through.

In fact, I couldn't put this stick down! At about the 2 hour 15 minute point, it got short enough that my fingers were getting too warm. And so I stuck it with one of my lighting sticks. (This is the first time I've done this)

I can't really explain what kept me going. I'm not sure what flavors I was getting, and I would say the cigar wasn't a full bodied smoke, probably medium bodied medium strength. But I didn't want to stop.

This cigar ended up having a "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" ending in that I took my "last puff" probably half a dozen times.

Only minor issue is I did have to do a couple touch-ups, and had to baby it at some points to keep the burn going well. So this definitely wasn't an absent-minded smoke. Still, it was highly enjoyable.

After 2 hours, 45 minutes, here's what I ended up with:

After nubbing it this far, I definitely had a good nicotine buzz which felt like it was rocking me to sleep after I went to bed. I don't think it was because of the cigar's strength - it was probably because of the hot smoke with the higher nicotine content. It seems the more I nub a cigar, the more of a buzz I get.

I will definitely have to try this one again!
