  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Strength: Medium-Full Bodied
Origin: Nicaragua
Wrapper: Colorado Maduro

Pre-lite
Cigar is smooth to the touch with little veins and feels like its packed solid. It smells a little sweet with some leather background.

First 3rd
Nice perfect draw with strong tobacco flavors. Settled after about 1/2 inch and started in with some Graham cracker and nuttyness.
Second 3rd
Smooth smoke with the flavors remaining consistent. Hints of dark coffee kick in. Burn is nice and sharp with the ash solid and clean.
Final 3rd
Starting to burn a little hot and bitter. As with the first third the flavor of Graham and nutty tobacco seemed to be the stongfront flavors of this cigar. However the bitterness is a bit irritating and harsh.

Final Thoughts
I'm just really not a huge fan of the Curivari line. I've tried them all now and for me they just don't fit perfectly into the taste category I prefer. I've had this sitting in my humi for some time now, so I know it's had alot of resting time. It wasn't a bad cigar by any means and the price on these isn't bad either it's just that these cigars seem to get bitter as they burn which can be ashy too. Just something I really don't like.
Would I by a box? No, but I would be willing to give these another shot with time. maybe as these age the bitterness I get will lesson on them.
:peace:

I would also be curious what other lines from the brand people have tried, there seems to be a few.
There are four lines: El Gran Rey, Gloria de Leon, Seleccion Privada, Reserva Limitada. Besides the Reserva Limitada there are only a few sizes in each line... I believe around 3. Within the Reserva Limitada there is 1000 Series, Cafe, and Classic.

I know Ciggy truly doesn't like this brand as I sent him an unbanded one in a box pass and said he didn't like it... lol. He's been very consistent... yes, I tried to trick him but couldn't.

I absolutely love the El Gran Rey and Gloria de Leon sticks. The Reserva and Seleccion stuff has been hit or miss but worth the smoke time imho. Some folks really like them. The only one that I smoked more often in the Reserva line is the Cafe. I'm also not crazy about the 1000 Series or cigar that ciggy reviewed.

For me the El Gran Rey and Gloria de Leon are sticks about flavor and subtle complexity, without being an in your face kind of cigar.

Thank you for taking the time to post ciggy.

Nice review and thats a sweet ashtray!

Curivari has not been a line I've enjoyed. Most leave me feeling parched, which is annoying. However, the 1000 line is one I have enjoyed though.

I have really enjoyed the 1000 series and the maduro's. The maduro they produce is a wonderfully rich cigar without being overpowering. Nice nutty/chocolate flavor to it.

Nice review, shame you didn't like this more.

i'm with jdog every step on this. el gran Rey, gloria de leon, and cafe. really freaky, and get out of my brain, man!

seriously, thanks for the review, and i can see this. just to put it out there, what is your preferred RH? love the leo, rey, and cafe from my stash, but the thousands that have worked for me have been from my local, which probably runs wetter. maybe 70 vs 65? if not, cool, they can't all be winners for everyone.

Keep my stash at 65% using beads. Like I said, I may give these another shot down the road. When it comes to cigars, for now, I just don't like the dry ashy aftertaste the most. The bitterness I didn't pick up till the last third.
