I'm defragging my HD (I haven't done it for a year or so) but I keep getting the anti-virus program prompts that are showing me that Trojans are being quarantined, Trojan/Downloader win32 zlob bn

Is that normal for trojans to be buried and don't pop up until you defrag?

Defragging a HD means you are basically erasing and then rewriting files on the disk and the new addresses of those malware files now need to be re-flagged. I usually set the option on my AV program to delete those files instead of quarantining them.

I would boot into safe mode, run a full antivirus scan and spyware scan, and disable/enable system restore to purge old checkpoints which might have viruses/spyware stuck in them. After doing this do a defrag on the hard drive and since your in safemode the process should not get bothered.

I try to defrag once a month as well.

I run a virus scan fairly often. Adaware weekly if I remember.
