  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Did I get a dud?

I smoked a Hoyo de Monterey Excalibur 1066 Lancelot, last night, that was gifted by a fine brother here. Well I treid to anyway. This cigar is 7.25 x 54 and the first cigar that size I have tackled in a long time, if ever. The wife went to bed early, and I recorded Casino Royal on the DVR in the Man Cave. I grabbed a Red Stripe Jamaican Lager and put my feet up. My XiKar barely fit around the head of this monster, but I got a good clean cut. The prelight draw was very woody, and seemed as if it would smoke fine. The draw was a little tight, but I thought it might open up once it warmed up. Unfortunately it did not. I about collapsed my face trying to smoke this thing. I had such great expectations for this cigar as it looked beautiful with its, chocolate brown wrapper and black and gold band. I tried to poke it, but my draw poker is not long enopugh to do much good on something like this. The smoke was almost non-existant. Bummer for sure. So I grabbed a little Cuaba Generosos, gifted by Evans at the last socal herf, and enjoyed the heck out of that cigar. So the question is, has anyone smoked one of these big Hoyo's and liked it. I would like to try one again, It seemed the little smoke i did get had a nice flavor.

Sadly, this is a handmade product and you are going to get some that just don't smoke. I have a box of 10 or eleven that I keep for times when I feel really relaxed and have the time to work it. Of course none of htese were lit, just cut with a firm or very firm draw. I use the poker and a drill bit if I have to. Some times it works but some times it dont.
