  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Diesel "rage"

So i have a 5ver of these coming and was wondering what the brothers' thoughts are on these?

...hey if there aren't any posts i will do a minnie review.. btw here is the ci description.....
an ultra-dark Ecuadorian Habano Sun Grown Oscuro wrapper overtop a perfect recipe of Cuban-seed Nicaraguan long-fillers grown for this project on AJ’s farms. This combination is 100% in sync, uniting to deliver an overload of complex flavors including earth, vanilla, coffee, spices, and cedar, all while offering just enough strength without becoming overpowering. It’s balanced. It’s bold. Etc etc.....

The UHC and Wicked are quite good .....

I cannot smoke the UHC, it leaves my mouth feeling chalky (texture, not taste). I think it's from the dye in the wrapper. If this one is a clean-burning cigar, that will leave my palate clean, I might actually really enjoy it. AJ's a good blender, I just wish he'd use higher-end material.

I haven't touched any of my UHC in probably 2 years, just cause new stock has come in since. May have to dig them out and see if I experience that.

I get it with a lot of cheap maduros lately. Higher end smokes like the Las Calaveras '14 and Tennessee Waltz didn't do it, but the UHC and Torano 50th did. I really think it's the dye in the wrapper, or else maybe oils added to the leaf? Really not sure, but it happens on almost every low-end maduro I try to smoke, so I just quit smoking 'em.

I would really be surprised if a blender of AJ's status would resort to dying wrappers. Does anyone have any verifiable proof to this? I like AJ's stuff but don't frequent maduros as often as natural wrappers. Currently really into the Ave Maria line. But i'm getting a strong itch for some Padrons :hungry:

Here's a pic of the rage.... it has a good smell yet looks more like a darker habano than a typical oscuro color. It is a box pressed toro and SOLID not at all squishy or any deformities. So far so good.uploadfromtaptalk1429831549403.jpgthis pic is a touch more red than they really are but close.....

hmmm that looks nice! Although I still prefer cigars in the round vs box pressed, but a subtle box press I can live with.

So i had one of these last night with some bourbon and the ci description was part off part on imo. It was not ultra dark (pic above) and didn't look like a typical dark oscuro but the flavor profile wasn't to far off at all. Creamy, earthy, nutty, woodsy were the flavprs i picked up on and it did develop as the smoke went on. By that i mean for a section it would be one flavor and change in another section. Construction draw and appearance were a solid A to Aplus. Nice work there. It was medium all the way but i really enjoyed this smoke. I tend to have 2 or 3 smokes before i make any decisions but If the next one i have is as good or close i will look for more,

I did check with a retailer who sells the diesel shorties but also known him and his father for going on a decade... He wasn't 100 percent sure but was fairly certain the uhc wasn't dip dyed. He did say it may be an accelerated Maduro where by they increase the heat to speed up the Maduro process. He added that typical traditional Maduro process would be not as uniform In color and would have variations in shade.

Thanks for the update. I have heard of companies cooking the leaves to speed the process. Glad they aren't dyed.
