Does anyone know what this is?

A friend of mine on another bb has this old tool. It belonged to his father, who died. I know it's a clamp/shaper, (probably for wood) but it's only about 6" across. If you made staves for a whiskey barrel with it, it would hold about 1 qt.

Any ideas what it was really used for???

It looks like it could have something to do with putting the clamps on half round gutter. How wide is it?

I'm not exactly sure. It's about 6" across, so I would guess about 3/4 to 1".
