Don Pepin My Father Review

So it goes like this...
I really wanted to try the new Don Pepin Garcia M.F. Le Bijou 1922 so after raiding my change drawer in my car I found out that my local store doesn't have it so i had to buy the regular DP My Father. At $12.00 I balked at first because I really don't usually spend that on a cigar unless I know for a fact I'm gonna like it. But couriosity got the best of me and I have never had a Pepin Cigar to date!
So here it goes!!



Ok i loved the taste of the wrapper. It was velvity and smooth! after the light BANG!! Strong taste of pepper (Glad I ate lunch first). Thepepper taste faded quikly as a stonger leather/apple taste hit. The taste of leather was very strong and the draw was really smooth. After about an inch the ash was white and you could sense a bit of coffee and carmel however the leather was still there.



This was the case all the way to the band which I found was any more to be un-exciting. I started to question the $12.00 i spent on it!



After I removed the band I thought maybe the final quarter would have something to offer but I was let down and as the guilt factor kicked in I felt I had to finish it off.


My final thought on this? Well I know everyone has there own impression of a cigar I found this one to be very one sided after the first inch. Maybe the Le Bijou 1922 is different but seeing how I can't get it here I'm wondering if I'm really missing anything anyways. Other than the taste of the wrapper and the draw I was let down with this being my first Pepin.

Is it just me or has anybody had a better experience with this cigar?
I really wished I would have spent the money on a Comacho or Padron because $12.00 for this one cigar is alot.

I re-visited it about six months later & was blown away - I got it! In fact, I got 'it' so much that I was craving the silky-smooth punch that only this cigar offered.

I LOVE these cigars (even more than the Le Bijou right now!). Perhaps they just needed to age/settle for a little while before the flavors began to 'pop'? Maybe it's just me.

Nice review. I like the My Fathers, they are a solid smoke. They aren't spectacular but an enjoyable stick IMO. For the price though I'm with you, a little to steep for a cigar like that. I'll take a cubao over the My Father.

DPG Cuban Classic
601 (any)
Cubao
Tatuaje Victorias, Angeles, Noella and Unicos (Verocu if you can find one)
El Triunfador

Many of these can be found fairly cheap, or easily traded for. All are awesome, imvho.

First Pepin? Really?

Yea it was really my first Pepin! Kina let me down a bit. It wasn't that it was a bad cigar, I just thought not worth the price and maybe one dimensional. I actually do have a couple 601 blues in my humi. I only have two so I was letting them sit for as long as I can because I can't get thoes here locally either. :disappoin

I've put fire to all the vitola's in the My Father line and found the Lancero to be the best.

I think they are great sticks, but I agree, you can find better out there for the retail cost. I bought a 6 stick sampler off cigarbid a couple of months ago (i think I paid $45 for it) and have had two of them.

I agree here with Kid, completely different flavor and taste, for the better in my opinion.

The Petite Robusto is my favorite size in the Le Bijou.

I agree with both SkinsFan and CigarKid. The Le Bijou is much more complex, and has a better flavor profile than the original My Father.

Tried this one last night, with Wayne of all people. For me since I'm still new, it was a mild, mellow cigar. Good cigar I thought.
