  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

This 5×52 stick offers a dark brown wrapper with slight imperfections, stretch marks, medium veins, color variation at the seams, a handrolled lumpy but firm and even constructions with a slightly sweet tobacco aroma. First light reveals a great draw, good smoke production and flavors of an almost aged tobacco with super smooth almost musty creamy medium body dry flavors and a long finish. The first third continues the exact same experience, burning fairly quickly with a very even line, great draw and smoke output. 25 min in at the 1/2 way point the ash fell off in a solid chunk, flavors remained virtually unchanged, only adding a bit of pepper on the finish. 40 min in at the start of the last third, flavors change to a softer tobacco with a bit of sweet caramel on the end of the draw, and the pepper is more pronounced, giving a bit of zing on the long finish. Ending at 55 min, past the band point the whole thing changed to a full body, heavy deep earth with a burned nut flavor and really strong after taste. It bordered on bitter, just knocking me out with hot temperature smoke and earthiness.

Thanks for the review. I've wanted to try some Brazilian puros for a while, but they seem to be hard to find, particularly in small quantities. One of these days I'll just bite the bullet and organize a box split.

BCP offers a 3 stick sampler of Dona Flor. They seem to be on a 1-2 week back order. I have purchased a few of the samplers in the past. I enjoyed all three sticks, but the Selecao was fantastic.

Asher,

I too have been smitten by that sensuous femme, Dona Flor. I had to chase down the North American Rep (Dana Sheldon) and he turned me on to these folks.

Since we are both in Northern Cali, if you decide to do a six pack of the Robusto and Selecao, I'll gladly split it with you.

If there are other brothers who want in, then perhaps we can go with a box split.

That sounds good. I'll post a box split thread in a little bit.

Are you still in Tracy? I'm just over the hill in Livermore now. (Moved here from WI in 2009.)

Yes, I am still in Tracy. Perhaps we can meet up at either Cigars N More or Mission Pipe in Pleasanton. I prefer the latter.
