The event went great guys. They had a big turn out, good people, good food and drinks, great deals on everything and the band was fantastic. All in all I’d have to say the official grand opening was huge success for the Kalahari Cigar Bar and Lounge. If you’re ever in the area stop by and check it out. The owner Paul is a real nice guy and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable.
Taven Johnson was the DPG rep. He’s a great guy, with a wealth of information and really knows his stuff when it comes to DPG cigars. It was a real pleasure meeting him. The featured cigars he had were a selection of the My Father (4 vitolas), My Father Le Bijou (3 vitolas) and the Jaime Garcia Reserva Especial (3 vitolas). The prices were very good and the special deals on box purchases were exceptional. Included in the box purchases were free 5 pack samplers, double blade cutters, t-shirts and Pepin’s Fresh Rolls. The quantity of free stuff increase significantly with the number of boxes you purchased. There were also door prizes which included a humidor, several ashtrays, sampler packs, t-shirts, etc. I believe 40+ boxes and 50+ singles of DPG cigars alone were sold. I think that is the most I’ve personally seen sold at an event like this. I picked up some of each in various sizes (singles that is, since I’m still in recovery mode from being laid off).
I got there earlier than I expected (around 3:45). Since I arrived early Taven and I got to talking and then he asked if I could help him out, setting up and stuff. I was more than happy to and wound up helping out some pretty much throughout the night. When I first started helping him he took out two of the Fresh Rolls for us to start the night off with. That stick was nothing short of ambrosia. By the end of the night he hooked me up with a nice selection of sticks and t-shirt for helping out. It was very generous and I really appreciated it. I just enjoyed helping out and getting to make more friends but that was icing on the cake.
Hopefully Taven will be dropping in and joining our BOTL family here. He will be pleased to see all the DPG fans we have here and the warm welcome I know he’ll receive.
To wrap it up, the Kalahari Cigar Bar and Lounge is a comfortable place to kick back and relax with some good food, drinks and a fine cigar or three. Maybe we could organize a herf there sometime in the near future and I’ll try to post any future events they have with enough notice for those interested.
Now, it’s time for some bourbon and a smoke! Later guys.
