WC Drapers in DC celebrated their 120th year in the cigar retail business. For that momentous occasion, they had La Aurora roll a special preferido size using the 100 Anos blend and they also had Pete Johnson roll a special size in their Cabaiguan line-up. I purchased both but only had the time to smoke the Cabi this afternoon.......I know, I'm slumming today :king:
This particular Cabi is a petit corona size with a pigtail at the cap reminiscent of the Cohiba Lancero. Of course, that's where any similarity begins and ends :nodlaugh:
Being my first Cabaiguan, I had zero expectations of this cigar. Ecuadorian wrapper with Dominican binder and filler if memory serves me correct. The wrapper was pretty fragile and thin. But this cigar looked extremely pretty and the wrapper was a light colorado color. Very silky smooth with no discernible veins, bumps hard or soft spots. Paired the cigar with an Amstel light since it was so hot outside. Clipped the end and tested the draw which was perfect. No discernible pre-light flavors other than toasted tobacco. It took to the flame readily and away we went :smokingme
Pretty straightforward flavor profile with little complexity. Mild in body but full pronounced toasted tobacco flavor. Maybe had some mild leather and earth undertones but nothing really jumped out at me. The burn and construction was stellar and this little bugger put out a good amount of smoke.
Overall this cigar lacked the complexity that I was yearning for. It was a decent smoke but I can't see buying boxes of these for myself. I was hoping the Ecuadorian wrapper would have added some but none came through. Maybe a Brazilian or even Cameroon wrapper might have been better. Kudos to Pete Johnson for putting out such well rolled product.
