  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Recently I was able to get a hold of a Special cigar from a great BOTL. It’s called the “Dirty Rat. “ It’s a pre production cigar made by drew estate. From what I heard this cigar hasn’t been produced yet because it’s such a costly cigar to make. It’s a 5 x 44 corona With 7 different tobaccos in it. It’s got a stalk-cut Sungrown Connecticut valley habano wrapper. So here we go…

Pre Light

It has a very strong barnyard smell to it mixed with sweet tobacco and hints of pepper. The wrapper is very dark and has a very prominent single cap with a pig tail. It’s a very firm, sturdy cigar. Pre light draw brought on flavors of chocolate and pepper.

Loads of spice at the opening! I got flavors of wood, coffee bean and pepper. The pepper mixed with the spice lets me know that this is setting up to be a real powerhouse!

2/3

At this point I am hit with leather, wood, and a chocolate sweetness on the finish. The burn is razor sharp and this cigar is producing massive amounts of smoke on every draw. This cigar is real strong but manages to stay so smooth. For it’s age I am amazed at it’s ability to stay so smooth yet be so strong. They certainly took time in making this cigar and something must have been done in the fermentation process to achieve this. Amazing!

The final 3rd this cigar just changes on me and really shines. The early flavors of wood and leather are still there but I also got a beautiful earthy toasted tobacco flavor with a nice little hint of cream. I also got hints of a candy sweetness that I couldn’t describe making this cigar very complex.

Final thoughts

It’s really going to be a shame if they don’t end up making this cigar available for the masses because this is easily the best Drew estate cigar I have ever had. Better than the flying pig, better than the #9. It’s a flavor bomb that has a load of strength but it manages to stay so smooth! The cigar felt perfect in my hand. If they do make this cigar I hope they keep the size because it’s perfect. Despite it’s small size the cigar burned very slow making it a longer than expected smoke time.

Great review! I have a "Dirty Rat" in my humi; also acquired from a great BOTL, known for his reviews and photography! I haven't had time to sit and smoke it, but I should soon since I've read your review.

Excellant review and pic's!

Just so you know, if and when the cigar goes into production, there were "13" different pre-production blends out and about.
