  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone ever try one of these? I know it's similar to what I use when checking the moisture of lumber but without the snake bite. Just curious.

"The DRI-DAMP is a pocket size device that permits you to sample the moisture level of any cigar. Just introduce the sensor into the cut-end of the cigar and the display will indicate if your cigar is: YELLOW: too dry (leaving it tasteless) RED: too moist (poor burning) GREEN: optimal (ready for an enjoyable smoke!) Activated with a single AAA battery, DRI-DAMP is a cost-effective, simple tool. A great gift!"

Wow, that looks wild. What is the meter set at for humidity? Think I would stick with the current "Charmin Squeeze" method.

Don't know much about it but after looking at the humidor that Wade made for himself it got me thinking about the moisture meter and if one existed for cigars.
A quick google search came up with this little toy for around 10 bucks. I'll probably get one to play with just for s&g's. Worst case I'll use the poker end to loosen up a smoke!

Edit: Just found a review for it at CA. Apparently it can be calibrated to the smokers preference and it used to cost like 40 bucks! It can be had for 8 bucks at the auction site. I'm gonna pick one up next week and play with it, a possible review if I can figure it out. If I can't I'll send it to someone else!

For $10, it's worth the thrill of the experiment.

I say you buy a bundle of cheap dog rockets and tupperware and bovedapaks of three different RH levels, calibrate the thing to your needs put the cigars in their respective containers and then pull them out and test each one after your done we can do some stats on it and see if there is a significant difference between what the boveda states and the moisture inside the cigar.

I have one of these that I picked up for the same reasons above, just to see how bullshit it was. My conclusion was that it was totally useless. I basically discovered that a cigar would have to be physically soaked for it to read that it was humidified properly. But what the hell, maybe mine was broken, for only 8 bucks its worth a try.

IMO Junk. Silly gadget. Use it once or twice then shelf space. Reviews I have read all say the same. Poorly calibrated. Works great for plant soil.
