  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Dual Flame vs Triple Flame

Is there a big difference between dual flame and triple flame lighting wise? I understand a triple flame will use more fuel, but other then that is there a difference. Coming a from a cheap triple flame (Nibo Space 6), I just picked up a Xikar Element and I hoping it lights just as well as my triple flame.

What lighter(s) do you have? Do you prefer dual or triple flame?

I have Xikar Executive, Nibo Space 6 (not working), and Xikar Element.

Thank

Wouldn't you like to know?
I really only use a single torch for every thing. I don't like to put too much heat onto my cigars as I light them. I only use multi torches for lighting in the wind then I just accept I will over heat it and go on from there.

Some of the lighters have triple flames that are specially angled to meet in the centre rather than burning straight up. The angled ones are ok. Otherwise if you must use a lighter with more than 1 flame, just get a double flame one.
I have single, double and triple flamers and really, the single flame lighter is good enough. Plus it lasts much longer (for each refill) and is more accurate for toasting the cigar foot. The triples only look more impressive when burning but doesn't actually toast or light a cigar 3x faster than a single flame. IMHO.

i've got the angled triple flame xikar. i like it. don't know that one is any better than the other, but i like it, so that's all that counts to me.

Same here, I also use a soft flame if I am indoors as well

I've got a Rocky Patel double torch (don't know who actually makes them) that for is perfect for most cigars. I also like the Alec Bradley single torches that I have. They are pretty powerful for a single. I'm with most of the others... a triple is overkill unless the are angled to converge into more or less a single flame.

It really doesn't take much to light a cigar unless you go over 52rg. I use a single torch and never have problems. It might take a minute longer to light it evenly, but I enjoy the process.

I never puff when the flame is on the foot. I toast, take away flame and puff. Repeat. No harshness upon lighting and nice even burn.

Soft Flame Xikar Exodus is a great lighter for inside...for outside I use a Ronson. Double and triple flames consume more fuel and a triple flame seems to be one of those lighters that are useless unless you're trying to light a 60 RG cigar.

with the risk of sounding like I am jumping on the band waggon...may I also suggest a single flame. I have had a ton of different lighters, and the single torch or soft flame works the best for me.

With a single torch I have had the best results with the ST Dupont, I have spent more money on the others combined because the have all junked out on me.

Best of luck, but toasting (lightly) and being able to light the foot without the flame actually touching is most easily controlled (for me) with soft or single torch.

I use em all. Big table torch for super windy, 3 flame torch for windy, and single torch for not so windy. I need to buy a soft flame for no wind at all.

When I'm at home I just use matches. When I'm on the go, a single torch. Matches aren't as travel friendly as a torch.

I have dual & single.
Dual to light most cigars and the single to touch up.
I do use the single to light small ring gauge, say under 40.
Ditto.......only I use a triple for fire up and single for touch ups. Got the triple as a gift from one of the ISOM dealers. Very nice gift........

I have a single jet Xikar (NXT), double jet Xikar (Axia), soft flame Xikar (EX), Soft flame Thunderbird Zippo Insert, single jet Dupont (Maxijet) and a double-soft flame IM Corona (Double Corona)

I personally like to light with a torch for the toast, and then a soft flame for a few slow, gentle puffs to get the cherry nice and even. I've used the double jet for coronas and the single for NUBs - Since I just use the torch to toast, it really doesn't make much difference to me.

However, when I used to use the torches for the actual light, I didn't worry about the RG so much as the location - I used a single jet indoors (and for touchups), a double jet outdoors, and a triple jet (Jetline) for outdoors/windy. I've come to use the double for all things outdoors, and the single as my main lighter, because the fuel consumption rate is noticeably slower.

I use an angled triple flame Vector in the wind and a single flame Xikar for everything else. Will probably never have to buy another lighter since the Xikar has the lifetime warranty.

I have the Xikar Axia with two flames and love it. Not overkill IMO. Easy to use for touch ups. I will probably get a soft flame down the road.
