  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Wrapper: Ecuadorian Sumatra

Binder: Nicaraguan

Filler: Dominican & Nicaraguan

Price: $6.55

Vitola: 5 5/8 x 46

Drink: Water – it’s too early in the day for me to be drinking anything else.

Appearance & Construction: I really like the color of the wrapper. It’s nice, oily, seamless with small visible veins. Pretty flawless with a nice draw. The entire smoke has had a pretty nice greyish ash that sometimes flaked, but again, only sometimes

Pre-light: The foot gives off nothing but Spanish cedar notes. The draw also gives off a lot of Spanish cedar, with an oak character that I get off of a nice full bodied red wine, similar to an oaky Cabernet Sauvignon.

Flavor & Notes: The first third gives me a woodsy note, and no cedar at all, I also get a sweet earthiness rounding out the whole smoke. There is also a sort of creamy coffee mouth feel to the smoke, very nice. I have started giving some heavier draws through the cigar and I get a very dominant pepper note coming to the forefront. I tend to not do this often so it is not a problem, and either way this isn’t a bad thing. So far this has been a very complex cigar. These flavors merge at times and then one will come to the front then it moves back in the whole smoke profile. Wow, the second third just reminded me of a nutty banana bread with a pepper undertone (note to self: make banana bread with some pepper). This taste came and went very fast, but it was very nice. Flavors have muted slightly, now just getting a sweet earthy medium bodied tobacco flavor mixed in in with a pepper undertone and a slight honey finish. Coming into the final third the cigar has changed once again. Pepper is starting to come to the front of the flavor profile, and I am also starting to get some of that oak note that I had in the pre-light. I am still getting some sweet honey, which is a great way to finish this cigar.

Body: Extremely Complex Medium

Overall Smoking Experience: I absolutely loved this cigar, again not what I consider a “typical” smoke for me. This cigar has to be one of the most complex cigars I have ever smoked. I am extremely surprised at the diverse flavors I get out of this smoke, from pepper to honey, this was awesome. So far I’m a big fan of the whole E.P. Carrillo line. If you have a chance this is a must try for any smoker.

Chooch Factor: 0/5 Most of those guys have no clue what this is, and this is a good thing. We can keep this brand to ourselves.

Rating: 8.25/10

Buy Again: For sure, this is a regular rotation cigar for me….. LOVES IT!

Thanks, I was worried at first that people would be complaining about the pics being to big. But I think it showcases the cigars very well. Thanks for reading.

Nice review, I need to try one of those now.

As a note on the image, stop down your aperture from 2.8 to 4 next time and see what you think. You'll still have an out of focus background but more in focus in front of your focus point, showing the the whole cigar in focus. Just a thought. ;)

Thanks I'll pass on the note. It's actually the wife of a friend of mine. So I'll see how I can get the point across with out pissing her off. I noticed it too, not all the photos she takes are this way. Most the entire cigar is in focus.
Again thanks.
