I was fortunate enough to meet up with Matt (C1ark) in Indy this week and he told me about a new shop called Riverside Cigars in Jeffersonville, IN that was on my to Louisville. I figured I would stop and check it out. I'm glad I did. Jeff is the owner and was great to talk with. While he did carry some very familiar and well liked lines I was surprised by the number of lesser know boutique brands he carried as well. I strayed off the beaten path and picked a few that he recommended and thought I would share them with all of you on BOTL. This is the first of them:
El Primer Mundo Liga Miami Robusto
Made in Miami
Equadorian Sungrown Wrapper
Dual Nicaraguan Binders
Dominican & Nicaraguan Fillers
$9.50
I will start off by saying that I knew absolutely nothing about any of the cigars I picked up from Jeff and had to look them up on the web to get any type of info. I liked the fact that the El Primer Liga Miami was rolled in Miami and that it was supposed to be a strong medium to full bodied smoke. The other thing I really liked bout this cigar was the design of the band and the way looked against the wrapper of the cigar. Classy. I just hope the cigar is as enjoyable to smoke.
The triple cap clipped easily enough with no damage and presented me with a very nice draw and some pepper lingering on my lips. Initial light up produced a thick creamy smoke and strong flavors of cedar and sweet tobacco. The balance between the flavors and the amount of pepper in this cigar were perfect. Ash is very light gray in color and fairly dense.
Getting into the end of the first 1/3 and the burn started and has remained staggered. This could have more to do with the fact that they rode home in my backpack from Louisville than any type of construction issue.
Middle 1/3 remained consistent with the first part of the cigar in flavor and burn. Having this cigar first thing in the morning with an americano I can certainly tell that the strength profile is spot on.
The final 1/3 brings more cedar and a definite ramp up in the pepper. The burn is still staggered which has been more of a distraction than an issue but I have found this a very enjoyable cigar.
Final thoughts on the cigar are all positive. I would certainly recommend them as well as buy them again for myself. This was also the initial try on my new cigar stand available from Ron C on the BOTL store site. Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did.
