  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I went to my B&M today and they had another box of the El Triunfador lancero's. The owner came to me and said that they were the second release and it appears that they have corrected some of the draw issues that were associated with the original release.

Apparently Pete is releasing some different sizes of the El Triunfador, but they aren't the same blend as the original. I am not sure if the new batch of lanceros I saw today are the new or old blend. I'm led to believe that they are the old blend, but I won't know until I fire one up.
The new El Triunfador is for the European market ... so the ones you saw are the "old" ones. My hope is that if Pete releases the new blend in the US, he'll still keep these lanceros somehow (maybe reband them as the Cabaiguan Maduro Lancero).

as far as i heard, the el truinfador is staying a lancero here in the states and he has created a 100 ct box of the truinfadors for sale later on. when he told me that, i kinda trailed off, he thought i was trying to imagine how big that box would be... until i told him i was trying to figure out if i could fit it into my humidor!

This cigar went through a helluva lot of transformations during the 13 or 14 months since I purchased them. Initially I thought it had much more of a typical Maduro characteristic while about 6 months ago really turning into a sweet & savory treat. I got a lot of caramel & Dr.Pepper type of sweetness early summer. More recently it is turning into a more typical Nicaraguan puro, demonstrating woody spicy flavors that are much more savory in nature. All of mine have been perfectly constructed.

I will also add that I purchased the Cabaguan Maduro's I've had because I was told that they were the same base blend as these El Triun's. I don't necessarily think that's the case unless the Seco in the thicker RG Cabs tends to dull down the sweetness found in the Triunfidors when young (few months). JMHO

This is one cigar I've wanted to get ahold of badly. Excellent review. I'm gonna have to order some up no matter what the wife says... ;)

Yea, I posted on this recently as well ... I didn't care too much for the El T at first, but now after a year these things are AWESOME! There is actually a lot MORE spice in these now than there was a year ago, and more flavor in general.

As far as the blend ... yes, the El T is just a Cab Maduro in a lancero shape. My guess is that with age the regular Cab Maduros will also be a lot better, but I'd also guess you'll never get the amount of sweetness in those as the El T, because the thin ring gives you so much wrapper flavor. Just my guess, as my experience with the regular Cab Maduros is quite limited.
