  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

No garage or workshop here. What about patio or deck heaters? Was looking at the big umbrella types that you might see outside a bar on the smoking deck. Little pricy, but they seem good. Any suggestions?

Propane powered heaters are great heaters! Don't forget to check out craigslist & Ebay for some good deals!
And don't forget to open a windor are crack your garage door, or that that could be your last cigar.

My mother and father and law got me the optimus oscillating electric heater with remote for my b-day to go in the shed with me. They totally kick ass! It also came with a separate smaller heater as well.

Wow, this is a cool thread.

I am now going to head over to Craigslist and look for some propane heaters. Those of you in Michigan stay away from Craigslist for a few minutes and let me find one.

Best regards, tony

I use a propane heater. The type you just screw on to a five gallon tank. It works great. I tried electric heaters, but they didn't put out much heat.
Ditto. I found one for $15 at a salvage store last year. It's very toasty for me, the coldest I can remember using it was in the low 20"s and kept it on med. I have a deck that is open with a roof over it so no worries about ventilation.

These put of some pretty good heat. I see them at costco every time I walk in there.
+1 This is what I use in my garage and it works like a charm. It really only works for one person though, and you do have to be sitting directly in front of it. I guess you could turn it on an hour before you go out to warm up the place a little. I also picked up the oil filled radiator heater the other day from Costco, about $40. This is great if you want to leave it on all the time to keep the garage at an acceptable temperature. It just won't do the trick if you turn it on just to smoke, doesn't kick out enough heat.

I have an old furnace, just sitting in the garage, that I have to hang from the ceiling. As I work on this kinda stuff, it makes things a bit easier for me, but it still doesnt make me want to work in the cold to instal the damn thing heh. I don't know why more people don't think of keeping old furnaces to instal in garages, it is the perfect piece of equipment...you just need an installer (that's where a guy like me makes some nice cash for cigars you know). :halfgrinw

I have an umbrella style patio heater. It works well on calm days, but if its windy out the breeze won't allow the heat to radiate downward very well. I don`t like smoking in the wind anyhow so I`m happy with it. $179 at Home Depot.

Can't offer much more than what was already mentioned. I have a large garage and have three heaters. 1. Infrared parabolic style heater that hooks up to propane tank. Good for instant heat but only if you're sitting right in front of it. It uses very little fuel. 2. Kerosene heater. Great if outdoor temp is 30 degrees or higher. Any colder and this heater can't keep up. Kero is expensive by me. 3. Propane heater that is shaped like a kero heater. This thing is a 115k btu's. It sounds like a flame thrower, but heats garage up instantly regardless of how cold it is outside. The only drawback from this is that it uses fuel fast!

Sorry, the OP asked about an electric heater and that was several months ago. If anyone else is considering using an electric heater in a garage - if you live in the north, you will be better served with a kerosene, nat gas or propane style heater. The electric heaters do not throw off enough heat.

I use a forced air kerosene heater with a thermostat from Loews. Feels great and it runs a long time on a full tank. During the winter I hang out in there and smoke and work on my toys in my flip flops and shorts while its 20 outside.
