  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So... I was at the Esteban Carreras event the other night at my local b&m and I picked up a couple of these at the rep's recommendation. He said they were a reviewer's favorite at IPCPR and I decided hell, let's do a review. Now, I don't normally review cigars and my palatte may not be perfectly inline with others, so take it with a grain of salt.

The rep told me the wrapper is similar to what's on the Davidoff Millenium, so I'm preparing for something mild-ish. I haven't eaten in 6 hrs, so I'm OK with that thought.

Construction: firm, only one real soft spot, but nothing too concerning.

Appearance: milk chocolate wrapper, but like a light milk chocolate.

Prelight: nice barnyard and straw/hay smell. Taste of hay and straw on cold draw. A little pepper on the lips.

1st third: straw, hay, and punches of black pepper that tingles on the lips and tongue. The pepper doesn't stay strong for long. Kind of mellowing into the background. Still grassy. Kinda boring and mild toward the end of the first third.

2nd third: begins with a slight pepper again on the retrohale. Not enough to stick too long on the tongue or throat though. Now more of a wet hay, light cream and light pepper. Very mild to me. Thoughts so far that she'd be a good morning smoke with an iced coffee on the golf course.

My buddy (lukeoutlaw here) enjoying a smoke out with me on the porch at the b&m:

3rd third: wet grass and very mild pepper. A little cream and some pepper getting a little stronger in the final third. Almost reminds me of a really light iced coffee. One that is more cream than coffee. Still a little pepper. But predominantly cream and still a little grass/hay.

Overall the smoke was alright. I had higher expectations with the reps recommendation and Probably not something I'd pick up again. It started out the way I like with nice pepper kick. The hay complimented the pepper, but wasn't exactly the flavor I look for in a smoke.

I can see smoking this in the morning on the golf course with an iced coffee like mentioned earlier. The cream would compliment that.

In conclusion, it was a bit boring to me through pretty much the entire smoke. I still have one more, so I'll smoke it some morning on the golf course and we'll see how it is when I'm not fully paying attention to it and rather on my mediocre golf game.
